3. Minutes and matters arising / ·  Barnados Conference on Sexual Exploitation of Children in Wales – Nov 26th St Asaph
·  Achieving best evidence. Trainer identified - Course scheduled for Feb 2009. Costs can be met through existing budget.
·  J.G. visited Pauline Preston re the Bullying Strategy. A part time Co-ordinator is in place.
·  Adolescent Risky behaviour – Session at Yale College Nov 22nd led by Sarah O’Connel Jones from Inspire.
·  BAWSO – Seminar 21st Nov. LSCB have requested workshop on mentoring. / Members attending to report back

4. Training Update / ·  Day 1 Domestic Abuse Multi Agency training delivered 9.10.08. Representation from agencies outside of Ch & YP Service was very limited suggesting that other depts may not be circulating the information effectively. (Although courses are fully subscribed we should ensure take up across the relevant agencies.)
·  Internet Grooming July 4th. 15 attended a very useful session.
·  Education Training on update of the All Wales C.P. Procedures.
·  2 Foundation days completed
·  SAP Training – Oct 1st.
·  Dec 1st – CP training for new Head Teachers and CP Co-ordinators
·  Trust Staff – Lisa Mills conducted CP training for Hospital volunteers
·  Youth Service – Good uptake on evening training by part time youth workers. Noted difficulties in ensuring all volunteers get access to CP training
·  New opportunities presented to provide training for communities, ie Child Minders
·  LSCB Training Conference with Tony Morrison. Useful work around the 3B’s, parental motivation and assessment. / JG to bring copies of the mailing list to next meeting to be reviewed.

5. Leaflets and publicity / ·  Leaflets are ready apart from including up to date telephone numbers of CYPS staff who are about to relocate. Leaflets for staff, public, parents, children

·  Noted the importance of raising awareness of the CP Procedures on line and using the search box to find issue. / JG to review numbers

6. Training Plan 08/09 / ·  Domestic homicide Review Training – still on hold while waiting final instructions from Home Office
·  Culture Workshops
10th Nov Gypsies and Travellers
27th Nov Children from BME communities
·  Forced Marriage Training
LSCB, CSP and WCBC Equalities Dept all supporting importance of this training under the LSCB umbrella.
·  Guidance to staff and volunteers. Delivered by Steve Futcher (H & S Officer). Session is targeted at front line managers and is about reducing risks. Includes legal aspects of work, lone working arrangements, risk assessments, evening visits.
·  Agency Leads Training. Group numbers kept to 10 – 12. Training based around scenarios.
Eg. Protocol for sexually active under 13’s. Making decisions about referring on.
·  Sexual Abuse.
New practitioners requesting training covering definition, how we talk about it, tainting evidence, police investigation, health matters, where SA is identified, dealing with disclosures, proxy disclosures, grooming.
(Cats Paw Theatre Company have been developing training workshops / forum theatre to engage audiences on the subject of SA) / Dewi to check if Rhian Parry is available to participate

7. Assessment Tools / ·  Brief update of practice
Child Health in Flintshire using the Neglect tool – a graded care profile.
Schools in Wrexham are using Neglect Monitoring Tools for logging individual incidences and gathering information.
Other models and adaptions discussed. Noted the context within the CAF and also the potential dangers of a scientific approach.
8. Training Plan / ·  Discussed the interest in TM return to deliver training on Assessing motivation to change (ie parents)
·  Assessment skills for Adult Mental Health Workers
·  Protection of children where there are mental health issues / JG to discuss with colleagues
JG to check out ‘Crossing Bridges’ – work with CP, SS and HH in Sefton.
