Local Favorite Rocks Garage Party for Bridge Communities
On February 7th, 2009, nearly 400 people attended the Garage Party at Gearhead European Auto Repair in downtown Glen Ellyn. The party featured food from various Glen Ellyn restaurants, live music from Local Favorite and a silent auction featuring artwork from E-Lumin proprietor Erik Peterson. The Garage Party was hosted by the Bridge Builders of Bridge Communities and was a fundraiser to benefit the Auto Donation Program sponsored by Bridge Communities.
Bridge Builders is a grassroots group of individuals who support Bridge Communities and provide opportunities for their client families. Bridge Builders’ fundraising helps raise additional funds to augment Bridge Communities’ services and extends family-focused programming that would otherwise not be available.
Most notably, Bridge Builders provides scholarships to high school students who go on to college. This single action directly impacts the student’s chance to break the cycle of poverty and move onto a much brighter future. Six scholarships were awarded to academically worthy students in 2008.
The Garage Party raised nearly $23,000 that will benefit the Auto Donation Program for Bridge Communities. Many client families enter the Transitional Housing Program with no car or one that soon breaks down. Donated used cars are refurbished and given to clients in need of a safe, reliable car for commuting to work and transporting their children to school and child care. The Auto Donation Program is a critical piece to getting our families back on the road to self-sufficiency.
