Bowes Park Community Choir

Aims

  1. To form and run a Community Choir that reflects the diversity of the area in its widest form.
  1. To provide an activity where local people can meet and undertake a common endeavour.
  1. To help Choir members become more self-confident singers.
  1. To help Choir members learn how to improve their voice and learn how to harmonise.
  1. To perform publicly and represent the community at local events.

Rules

  1. The choir will be known as the Bowes Park Community Choir.
  1. It shall be non-political, non-sectarian and adhere to its equal opportunities policy (see aim 1).
  1. Membership will be open to all and there will be no auditions.
  1. For a good and sufficient reason the membership of any individual may be terminated by decision of the committee. The individual has the right to be heard by the Committee. The committee’s decision is final.
  1. The Music Director is an honorary member of the Choir and will be appointed by a simple majority of the Choir after selection by the Committee.
  1. The appointment of Music Director will run until the person wishes to resign, provided they perform their duties satisfactorily.
  1. Either party must give a minimum of seven weeks’ notice before severing the appointment.
  1. The choice of music shall be decided by the Music Director in consultation with the Committee.
  1. The Music Director shall have sole control at rehearsals.
  1. All members will be expected to pay a Subscription at the first session of each new term to cover the costs of the choir (the first session for new members is free).
  1. The size of the Subscription will be determined by the Committee and reviewed on a twice-yearly basis. It will then be voted on by the whole Choir and the majority view upheld.
  1. No one should be barred through financial circumstances and individuals may receive special terms in cases of financial hardship. Everyone must make some financial contribution.
  1. The choir may receive donations.
  1. Any income shall be applied solely to further the aims of the Choir and no portion shall be paid directly or indirectly to any member of the Choir.
  1. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred by members on the authorised business of the Choir will be reimbursed at the discretion of the Committee. Receipts must be given to the Treasurer.
  1. Payment will be made for the Music Director for rehearsals and public performances. Agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. Receipts must be given to the Treasurer.
  1. The financial year of the Choir will be from 1st January to 31st December.
  1. Accurate accounts will be kept and a financial statement extracted and presented to the AGM that shall be held before the end of February.
  1. If upon winding up or dissolution of the Choir there remains any property whatsoever after the satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities the same shall be transferred to Bowes Park Community Association.
  1. The Choir shall be managed by a Committee consisting of a Secretary, Treasurer and not less than four other committee members. The Committee shall meet as deemed necessary (but not less than twice a year).
  1. Any eventuality not covered by these Rules shall be dealt with by the Committee.
