Board of Directors Meeting

Judy Mellott, Chairman called the meting to order with the flag salute and one verse of America. Brenda Moss, Hillsboro Site Manager gave the welcome and shared her father and former County Commissioner, Bob Hein was at Salem Home and not doing very well. Judy Mellott gave the invocation. There was one birthday: Robert Carlton and one anniversary: Kermit and Ruth Ratzlaff.
Judy Mellott, Chairman asked for motion to approve the July 19, 2013 minutes as written. Lila Unruh made a motion to approve minutes as written. Ruby Hilt second and motion carried.
Dee Duggan, Secretary/Treasurer gave the Treasurer’s Report as follows: SHL Account $636.00, SCMC Account $173.81, total in checking account $809.81.
Business: There were no Mill/Levy requests.
Gayla Ratzlaff, County Coordinator asked for Board for approval to pay registration for Board members to attend the Sunflower Fair. Dee Duggan made a motion to pay for SCMC Board members, who plan to attend the Sunflower Fair. Kermit Ratzlaff seconded, motion carried. The Department will take the van to the fair for a fee of $3.00 a person. Gayla shared about the high-dose Flu Vaccine they are recommending for individuals over the age of 65. The Department will extend the deadline for local artist to be nominated to September 3, 2013.
Robert Carlton, Central Home Care Administrator shared how important getting your Flu shot is for everyone. He shared the duties of a nurse for a 1938 nurse graduate.
Lorene Hett, Marion County Home Care nurse shared about the new therapists: a part time occupational therapist and a full time physical therapist starting at St. Luke hospital. The St. Luke Auxiliary shop will be moving to the old Duckwall store in September.
Connie Omstead, ONE Committee Chairman reported next meeting will be November 12, 2013 in Peabody.
Twilla Baker, Health Service Providers Committee Chairman reported on homeopathic substitutes for pain killers. Some of the substitutes included: 10 oz glass of tomato juice for leg cramps, a cup of grapes for aching back, a bowl of cherries a day for joint pain and one teaspoon of ginger a day will ease muscle pain within two months.
Fiennes Jantz, Transportation Chairman was absent
Joyce Kyle, Senior Center Committee Chairman did roll call. Durham had no meeting. Florence had 11 people and enjoyed a watermelon cake brought by Betty Ireland. Hillsboro played Bingo twice. The hosted the NC-FH AAA 18 county board meeting in July. They are planning a fundraiser on August 23 in the evening and will serve Sloppy Joes and the Cottowood Valley Band will be the program. Lincolnville continues to play dominoes once a week. Marion had the Susie Talbot, new pastor come give a music program. Pastor Jeff Lee will be giving a program on August 28th. Rita Linnens came and talked about vans for handicap people. Peabody had their birthday dinner. Dr Whitely came and spoke about strokes. Tampa met at the Tampa Café. They shared their favorite hobby. Burns had 23 people attend their potluck. Mike Miller, Burns Chief of Police talked about identity theft and scams
Virginia Downing, AOK volunteer reported you can throw your clothes in the dryer to kill ticks. She shared one way to undo sun damaged skin is by eating tomatoes and broccoli. She said the best time to do elective surgery is in the fall.
Shirley Bowers, Nominating, By-Laws Committee Chairman reported Dinah Richmond is willing to serve her first term after completing the vacancy term. She needs names for District 1 and District 2.
Barbara Smith, NC-FH AAA Board Member reported NC-FH AAA got a match grant to help pay for Sunflower Fair. The next Keynotes issue will be on Prescription Drug enrollment.
Coral Wright, NC-FH AAA Field Representative distributed her hand-out for August 2013. She spoke about upcoming Sunflower Fair and AOK meeting in Abilene.
Tom Duggan, SHL reported that he would be attending the SHL meeting in Topeka in October. This meeting will decide what issues to present to the State Legislature. He reported that agencies are getting paid more timely from KanCare insurance companies.
Meeting adjourned and everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch at the Hillsboro Sr. Center.
