Open House for Prospective Families (Thurs., February 4) - Know a family who isn't in love with their school? Has someone been bending your ear about what BJAMS is like? Over coffee and muffins guests will enjoy a student-made welcome video, tour and presentation, and Q&A with Mrs. Wilson. Drama News - Attention Parents of Students Grades 5-8 - If your student is interested in being in Macbeth, (s)he needs to attend the play discussion/auditions on Wednesday, Jan. 27 (3:10 - 5:10 p.m.) AND Thursday, Jan. 28 (3:10 - 5:30 p.m.). They will be held in the 6th grade homeroom.
Are you on Front Porch Forum? Would you submit a recommendation for BJAMS? BJAMS is entering its busiest season for admissions and when people in the community hear from a BJAMS parent, it speaks volumes. We recommend keeping it brief and to the point. Pick a few of your family's favorite things and convey how BJAMS has made a difference in your child's life. Be sure to include a link to the website - - and encourage readers to visit the school in person to witness it for themselves. If you aren't yet on maybe you will think about creating an account to lend a hand? The more who can do this the better!
Strep Throat Alert – There have been multiple cases of strep throat in our school recently and not all of them had a telltale sore throat. Please be on the lookout if your student complains of a sore throat or exhibits any of the symptoms listed below. Symptoms may be mild or severe. Fever may begin and you may have chills and a red sore throat, sometimes with white patches. It may hurt to swallow and you may feel swollen, tender glands in your neck. Other symptoms may include: general ill feeling, a loss of appetite and abnormal taste, headache and nausea. Some strains of strep throat can lead to a scarlet fever-like rash. The rash first appears on the neck and chest, then it spreads over the body and may feel like sandpaper. A rapid strep test can be done in most health care provider offices; however, it can be negative even if you have strep. If the rapid strep test is negative and your health care provider still thinks you may have strep, a throat swab can be tested and results will take 1-2 days to come back. Sore throats should only be treated with antibiotics if the strep test is positive. Antibiotics are taken to prevent rare but more serious health problems. Antibiotics should be taken for ten days, even though symptoms are usually gone after a few days. Symptoms of strep throat usually get better in about one week. Untreated, strep can lead to serious complications such as rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, peritonsillar abscess, etc. Most people with strep are contagious until they have been on antibiotics 24 - 48 hours. They must stay home from school, daycare, or work until they have been on antibiotics for at least a day. Tip: Get a new toothbrush after you are no longer contagious, but before finishing the antibiotics. Otherwise the bacteria can live in the toothbrush and re-infect you when the antibiotics are done.
