Press Release – Mr Percy William Ardley

On Tuesday 14 March 2005 at Slough Crematorium, the Ardley family, village of Horton and local farmers, the Rayner Family, said goodbye to Mr Percy Ardley who died on 25 February 2005 at Heatherwood Hospital. The last two of three years Percy had been in and out of hospital with chest trouble.

Percy, born on 5 March 1926 at Tolworth, Kingston-Upon-Thames, had lived in the village of Horton most of his life. He met Jessie, his wife, when she worked in Kennards in Staines. They married on 26 December 1950 and later had four children, Michael, John, Christine and Debbie. He has two grandchildren, Jamie and Laura. Percy was also an employee of local farmers, J Rayner & Sons Ltd, since the age of 14 years. He was an employee of Colin Rayner’s late grandfather and Ernest Rayner, and his late father, Eric. Percy had worked on the pig unit and then later on the arable farm ten years prior to his retirement in the early 1990’s. He retired at the age of 50, due to ill health. Farming, as we all know, is a seven-day a week job, and apart from holiday, Percy was always up early and off to work.

Colin Rayner, a director of J Rayner & Sons Ltd said “He was a delightful man and a hard working employee who will be missed by all. It is a great loss to the Ardley family and we would like to express our deepest sympathy”.
