Week 17 Newsletter -Grade 3

(December 18th -December 22nd)

This Past Week’s Events

As you know, the grade 3s missed the three days of the week due to illness. We hope that all the students are getting the rest they need in order to get better quickly. Given that many of the students were not back at school for the end of the week, we took this time to let the students finish their brochure projects, and to do some extra review. We will make sure that students who have not been well enough to join us at school have enough time to finish their brochures. The brochures are a sign of the learning that has happened over the last several weeks, and we want to give the students to show off what they have learned.

Next Week’s Expectations

As we missed the first few days of the week, and many students missed the end as well, we have put off the brochure presentations until next week. Once all the students have had a chance to come back and finish their projects, they will have the opportunity to share their learning and creativity with their peers.

We will also begin our unit on Canada. In our previous unit, we looked at a few maps briefly. Now students will have the chance to have a more in-depth look at maps and how to read them, as well as a chance to learn some vocabulary related to talking about maps.

PARENT OBSERVATION WEEK:

Many parents missed the opportunity to come in and see our classrooms in action this week due to classes being cancelled. These observations have been rescheduled and we look forward to seeing those who are able to come and visit.

Just as a reminder, here is the information that was posted last week regarding the observations.

Classroom sessions will consist of a 30-minute observation of your child’s class, with an opportunity to see how your child learns in class.

For the open week sessions to run smoothly, there needs to be a few reminders to enable the teaching and learning to continue without too much disruption. These include:

· No preschoolers please.

· No photos or videos (recording) in the classroom.

· Please turn all phones and devices off.

· You should only attend the session for the course and class your child is in.

· Please do not have discussions with other parents in the class or with any students as this would be disruptive to the class learning environment. Students have been advised to not interact with you while you are present.

· We encourage you to look at the items posted on the classroom walls.

In case you have any questions for the teacher, please use the agendas to communicate your thoughts. We are happy to respond to your comments. However, during the observation session there will not be any opportunity for questions and answers, as this will be the regular class schedule.

Homework

This week we are introducing a new homework board. This new board is made of up of a 3 by 3 grid. When students choose the homework, they would like to do, they must choose 3 boxes that are in a straight line, just like in a game of Bingo. The lines can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. By offering more choices in the homework they do, we hope the students can learn how to think about their own learning, and take ownership of it.

第一學期第十七週

本週重點(12/18 - 12/22)

家長們都知道,本週三年級的學生因流感而停課了三天。我們希望所有的學生都能獲得充分的休息,並盡快恢復健康。考量到很多學生在本週末沒有回到學校,我們花了一些時間讓他們完成小冊子的作業,並做了一些複習。我們會確保每個學生在學校都有足夠的時間來完成他們的小冊子。小冊子是過去幾週學習的成果,我們希望給他們機會呈現他們所學到的東西。

下週重點 (12/25 - 12/28)

由於本週的前三天我們沒上課,許多學生也錯過了一整週,所以我們延後了本週小冊子的報告。待所有的學生回來完成他們的作業之後,他們都會有機會與同學們一起分享他們的學習成果以及創作。

我們也將開始學習關於加拿大的全新單元。在我們先前的單元中,我們簡單的瀏覽了一些地圖。下週,學生將有機會深入了解並且學習如何看地圖,並有機會學習一些與地圖相關的詞彙。

家長觀課週

由於停課的關係,許多家長錯過了本週觀課的機會。我們重新安排了觀課時間,並期待您們的蒞臨。

再次提醒您,以下為上週所發佈關於觀課的訊息。

家長每次入班觀課時間是30分鐘,為了確保觀課日能順利進行,讓教學不會受太多干擾,我們有一些提醒:

l  請勿攜帶學齡前幼兒入班。

l  請勿拍照或錄影。

l  請在入班前關閉所有手機及電子物品。

l  僅能進入貴子弟上課的班級。

l  上課時請勿與其他家長或學生討論,因為這會干擾孩子上課,我們也會勸告學生不要跟家長交談。

l  我們鼓勵家長可以觀看貼在教室牆上的作品。

如果您有任何的問題想要詢問老師,請使用英文聯絡簿與老師溝通您的想法。我們非常榮幸能夠回覆您的建議。然而觀課週的課程會依照平日的課表進行,因此並沒有安排家長發問及回答的時間。

作業

本週,我們將給學生們一個新的作業單。此作業單是由一個3X3的方格組成的。他們可以選擇想要做的作業,但他們必須選擇3個能連成一直線的格子,就像玩賓果遊戲一樣。線可以是直的,水平的或是對角線。藉由在作業中提供更多的選擇,我們希望他們能夠學習思考自己所學,並掌握自己的知識。

閱讀錄音:

請繼續在家使用閱讀紀錄表,並記得錄下孩子在閱讀時的聲音,請注意您的孩子每一天錄一本書,這表示每一週能閱讀至少七本書,閱讀紀錄表可以在綠色回家作業本的背面找到,孩子必須每個禮拜五連同作業本一併繳交。
