CMAS TestingColorado Measurement
What is CMAS? The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) is the new Colorado Science and Social Studies Assessments. East 12th grade students are scheduled to take the CMAS on Wednesday, November 12th-Thursday, November 13th, 2014 from 8:00am-11:30am. These are mandated state tests. East Student Play THE IF NOT US PROJECT
Date: Thursday, November 13-Saturday, November 15, 2014 Cost: $15($10-students and school staff) Location: East
THE IF NOT US PROJECT will culminate with three performances of its original play about Civil Rights issues past and present. An ensemble of East High School students co-created this play that springs from the students' own experience, research, and source material gathered during intergenerational discussions and digital storytelling workshops. This is a project focused on bringing art and community together.

Bilingual Families Family Navigators Needed
Family Navigators is an East outreach connecting new and returning families. A family navigator is a volunteer that provides support and outreach to bilingual families new to East. This includes: Understanding grades, Parent portal, Parent & teacher conferences, DPS services for English Language Learners, Postsecondary Process, and more. Navigators needed in these languages: Arabic, Amharic, Somali, and Spanish.

Denver Plan 2020Updated Plan released
“This summer, DPS launched the updated Denver Plan -- a set of five ambitious goals designed to ensure that we as a district reach our vision that Every Child Succeeds. With goals crafted by nearly 3,000 parents, educators, students and community partners, the Denver Plan will take the entire DPS community to implement and achieve its goals. When asking the community what is at stake with the Denver Plan 2020, several DPS and community leaders chimed in on what they and everyone can do to achieve the Denver Plan goals. 7 East students qualify as 2015 National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship Competition Semifinalists
Congratulations to the following students who are Semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Competition: Simon Bertron, Ryan Bronson, Christopher Dudley, Emma Heth, Dylan Salzman, and Katherine Strong. Congratulations to Ashia Ajani who is a Semifinalist in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Competition.
“The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. About 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists. Semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis and are the highest scoring entrants in each state. “
“The National Achievement® Scholarship Programis an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black students may have entered both the 2015 National Achievement Program and the 2015 National Merit® Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and meeting other published requirements for participation. Of the more than 160,000 students who entered the 2015 National Achievement® Program, over 4,700 are honored. A smaller group of about 1,600 are named Semifinalists.” Click the link for more information.
