REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 21, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by the president of the Board of Education, Mr. Kuebler. Mr. Kuebler called for the flag salute and for a moment of silent thought and reflection after which he stated that the meeting had been posted and announced in accordance with Chapter 231, P.L. 1975.

Roll Call by Board Secretary (all present); Sunshine Statement

Moved by Mrs. Lombardi, seconded by Mr. Vellon, the Board, after discussion, failed to approve the Minutes (Closed session and Public) of August 24, 2015 by a vote of 0-5-2 with Mr. Rivera and Mr. Zangari abstaining.

Contracted with architect to do a building by building assessment

Remarks by Citizens – AGENDA ITEMS ONLY (Public Participation Session 1):

Lisa Kistner: Congratulations to the 2014-2015 retirees. Special thanks to Catherine Watson.

Tom McCrohan: Problem with traffic around schools. Is the play usually approved by the board? (Dr. Tomko: In his experience it has, shows support of the board.)

GeorgeAnn Polite: Dress code should e addressed on a case by case basis. Is board considering acting against the 139 students who did not return? (Mr. Egan – very difficult to prove.) Shouldn’t our domicile investigator follow up? How many students were deemed illegal during the school year? Were they charged?

Moved by Ms. Dolan, seconded by Mrs. Torres, to close Public Participation.

The board then moved into the following resolutions:

Mr. Vellon asked to discuss resolution C5 – How many backpacks and how distributed? How did this come about? Wants to make sure they are being given out fairly. (Dr. Tomko: Project Backpack is done across the state. Principals were asked for students in need. Was done discreetly.)

Moved by Mr. Zangari, seconded by Mrs. Torres, the Board passed the following resolutions A1-E2, by a

4. Approve the appointment of Danielle Swede to the position of Teacher of Science, Middle School, at a salary

5. Approve the appointment of Neryluz Lopez to the position of English Maternity Leave of Absence

Replacement Teacher, Middle School, for 10 months, at a salary of $44,335, (pending negotiations)

6. Approve the appointment of Michelle Romano to the position of Students with Disabilities Maternity Leave

17. Grant to Pamela Marino, Part-Time Paraprofessional, a Leave of Absence without pay, commencing

September 1, 2015 through October 30, 2015.

19. Approve the following staff member for the Belleville Universal Campus School (B.U.C.S.) Program.

The B.U.C.S. Program will operate from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM during the regular 2015-2016 school year:

20. Approve one additional hour a week for Erin Chamberlain, BHS Library/Media Specialist, to have the High

School Library/Media Center open from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM, on an as needed basis, for the 2015-2016

school year, $36.75 per hour, as per Belleville Education Association Contract.

Absence, commencing December 23, 2015 through March 16, 2016 (12 weeks) and a Child Rearing Leave

of Absence, commencing March 17, 2016 through March 31, 2016 (2 weeks).
