  • If the numbers allow we will consider 2 teams at the 7th/6th, 5th, 4thand 3rdgrade levels for 2016.We wanted all parents to be aware of this prior to selection of the teams/tryouts.

Note:“League Age” means that the player is XX years old as of April 30th, 2016.

Commitment

In deciding whether or not to try out for Bay State, players and their families should carefully consider the extent of the time commitment required. Please read the following for information.

The A70 Division for 6th and 7th graders (Intermediate Division that we are playing in the spring) will play one round this summer;however we have added a couple more games and a neutral site weekend this year.

Game Dates: 6/29, 7/1, 7/6, 7/8, 7/11, 7/13, 7/16(neutral site), 7/17(neutral site), 7/20, 7/22, 7/25, 7/27, 7/29, 8/1, 8/3. Tournament of Champions to follow.

B Divisionwill now play a 2 Round Format. Games will begin Tuesday June 28th and end the first week in August. The Tournament of Champions will be the 2nd week in August. Semi Finals and Finals will be the 2nd weekend in August. First round divisions will be based on geography. Second round will be based on team strength.

Game Dates: Rd1: 6/28, 6/30, 7/2, 7/5, 7/7, 7/9, 7/10, 7/12, 7/14 Trophy Weekend: 7/16, 7/17

Rd 2: 7/19, 7/21, 7/23, 7/26, 7/28, 7/30, 7/31, 8/2, 8/4. Trophy Weekend 8/6, 8/7

There were a few reasons for the change. Having two (3) week rounds gives teams more flexibility than three (two) week rounds. Teams needing to reschedule games for district conflicts will have more open dates to reschedule now. Second, the new format gives players and parents more time off. The first Saturday of each round will be a home/away (not neutral site)game scheduled at 10am. The next day(Sunday) will be a scheduled off day. This will allow teams to play a local game Saturday morning and then not have another game until Tuesday night. The new format also allows us to finish the regular season the first week in August and the playoffs the 2nd week. This allows everyone to have plenty of summer left after baseball.

The C Division (10s)will remain the same. The D Division (9s)will now follow the same schedule as theC Division. Two (6) game rounds.

Game Dates: Rd 1: 6/29, 7/2, 7/6, 7/9, 7/11, 7/13 Trophy Weekend: 7/16, 7/17

Rd 2: 7/23, 7/25, 7/27, 7/30, 8/1, 8/3 Trophy Weekend: 8/7, 8/7

Games are scheduled both mid-week (5:30pm or 7:30pm) and on weekends at 10:00 amor later. Pre-game warm-ups will be significant...often 1 hour (for home games) or 2 hours (for away games) before game times. Home games and most practices are held at the Featherland Field Complex. These are general guidelines, but the obligations may vary from week to week. The second team if chosen may follow this schedule or have a lesser overall commitment.

In addition to player commitments, team parents will be expected to volunteer for snack shack duty and field preparation duties at mid-week games and during Tournament and Host weekend events. The snack shack must be staffed and open for all Featherland home games.

Registration Fees

All players who register for Bay State will pay a registration fee as follows; $650 for A and B, $500 for C and D. Please note that no child will be refused a spot on the team due to financial reasons. If a family needs relief for a fee, then that family should simply contact LS Baseball. LS Baseball keeps all requests highly confidential, as only the League Admin. and President are included in the decision-making process for relief, and no supporting info is requested to make such decisions. If your child is not placed on a Bay State team, then he/she will be placed on a Jimmy Fund League team and refunded the difference in the registration fees.

Tryouts

The teams are selected based on tryouts and spring season performance. Players will be evaluated by a group of experienced managers and coaches on fielding, pitching, hitting, and speed. Players should come prepared for a rigorous tryout.

Tryouts for Bay State 2016 will be on Saturday, June 4th, at Lower Featherland Center:

  • 4th graders: 8:00 - 10:30 am
  • 3rd graders: 11:00am–1:00 pm

Finally if you are thinking of having your daughter/son try out, please sign up as soon as possible as this will allow for the committee to better plan for the season and the possibility of two teams and also give the managers an opportunity to watch your player in game action leading up to the tryout. The fee is not due until later, even if you register now.

We look forward to seeing your child on SATURDAY June 4th!
