Our Class Learning
This half term we will be looking at different celebrations and talking about the festivals and celebrations that are special to us. This week we will be looking at the celebration of Diwali. This is the Hindu festival of light. We will be making Diwa lamps, looking at mehndi and rangoli patterns, making Diwali cards and finding out how children celebrate Diwali.
Our focus for maths, will be looking at a group of objects and finding out how we can separate the group in different ways, realising the total stays the same. We will be asking your child to compare two gropups of objects, saying when they have the same number, extending this to finding the total of two groups of objects. We will be encouraging your child to count objects in all areas of the nursery and modelling how to count accurately, extending this to making marks to represent how many objects they have counted.
Our Family display in our home corner is looking great. Please continue to send your photos to the emails below. We would also like to look at the celebrations you and your child have shared, so if you can start looking for photographs we would be really grateful.

Messages to Parents
Home-School Learning
It would be great if you could support your child to think of things and places that are important ans special to them and also help them to see what is important and special to you!
Our number of the week this week is 3! Please look out for this number as you are out in the car, walking or on public transport. It would benefit your child if you could help them to show what 3 looks like on their fingers, count out three objects and make three marks or objects. You could also model how to record the number.
We will be looking at the ‘Rama and Sita’ story this week to link with Diwali. You can find a lovely presentation on Cbeebies. We are also going to be reading the story ‘Where’s Spot?’ and ‘Going on a Bear Hunt.’ These stories are fantastic to develop positional language. A game of hide a seek at home could help this. Where could your child be? Are they next to, under, on top of or behind somewhere? Teaching your child how to use these positional language terms would really benefit them in nursery. You will find the author Micheal Rosen reading the Bear Hunt story on You Tube.
Star of the Day
As a team, we have decided that we are going to stop our ‘Star of the Week’ award and begin a ‘Star of the Day’ award. This will enable us to praise the children at the end of the session and ensure that they remember why they have earned the award, allowing more time to celebrate their success. If your child gets our ‘Star of the Day’ award they will get a special slip as well as a sticker.
Early Essence
We have been working hard trying to get every parent/carer an Early Essence log in. As I am sure you are aware this is the program that we use to observe, monitor and assess your children. Unfortunately, there has been a slight technical issue with this, but we can assure you that as soon as it is solved you will receive your log in details. This will allow you to see how your child is progressing in nursery and add to their learning journey!
Colder Weather
Now we are in Autumn time the weather is getting colder. Please ensure that your child has a warm coat, hat and gloves in nursery each day. It is also helpful if you can ensure you child has wellies (to keep at nursery) and spare clothes each day too.
Thank you for your understanding with this.
Library Day- Wednesday.
We would like to invite you to select a library book with your child each Wednesday. Between 9 and 9.30am and 1 and 1:30pm you can select a book and join in with a variety of early reading and writing activities with your child. We hope this will show you how we teach early reading and writing and show you some activities you can try at home.
Keyworker Meetings
An appointment sheet will be placed in the cloakroom this week. Please select an appointment to see your child’s keyworker. If you are unable to find an appointment time that is convenient, please speak to a member of staff and we will try to accommodate you.
