Basketball Game Day Process

In order to make the game day setup, breakdown and games go smoother the below items should be followed.

1.  The coaches that are scheduled for the first game (8:00 AM), should arrive early (about 15 minutes)to organize the setting up of the benches and tables.

o  Two benches for each side.

o  One table in the middle.

o  Set up the score board, and test it out.

2.  The custodian has been extremely helpful with this setup, he will have one of the bleachers extended for the parents to sit.

3.  Since Saturday is the main game day for all groups the last group to use the gym must put the benches and table back to its original spots.

o  The two benches on each side of the table go into the locker rooms.

o  The table should be put back in the hallway outside the gym.

o  The score board should be put back in the equipment room, unless there is another MPBA group coming in and they wish to use it. If so they need to put it back in the equipment room

o  The ball bins need to be locked up and put back in the cubby by the curtin.

To ensure that every one is clear on what the rules are prior to each game let's do the following:

1.  After youarrive have your assistant coaches organize your teams into some type of warm up

2.  Please have the assistant that will be working the score keeper’s table meet with you in the middle of the court with the referees.

3.  Review the game rules and regulations each time, since as we progress with season we might update items. Each week these rules should get less lenient as to improve the playing ability and rule awareness of the game. Please don't take anything for granted. Make sure the refs know what they should be calling.

4.  Once the meeting is over and the warm ups complete, have the teams take their benches.

5.  Have the first set of 5 players from each team check in at the score keepers table.

6.  Instruct the players to go out to the blue line in the middle of the court and wait to be teamed up with a player to guard (coaches will do this, some assistant or head coach, your choice).

7.  Setup for the jump ball, position them as needed.

·  Let the refs start the game. Before the end of each 5 minute session try to have your next lineup ready, and already checked in with the score keepers at the desk. This way when the previoussession is over the players need to only run out to the blue line and get paired up (by an assistant or Head coach). The proper team can take the ball out (refs to decide)on the side and the next session can begin as quickly as possible.

·  40minutes of playing time and a 5 minute half, within a 1 hour session, that is the challenge.
