BASIC SAFETY RELATED ASPECTS AND REGULATORY OVERSIGHT ON NPP OPERATION

Regulatory oversight of operating Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) is a key aspect in assuring safe NPP operation and proper adherence to licensing basis as required in plant authorization.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This training course is intended for technical personnel of regulatory bodies and Technical Support Organizations (TSO) who pursue to acquire general knowledge in the assessment of important safety related aspects regarding NPP operation and the most significant features of a risk informed, comprehensive regulatory oversight system of such aspects. Attendees are expected to have sufficient engineering background on NPP and previous general knowledge on regulatory activities.

After the successful completion of the Basic Training Programme, it´s expected that participants

Have gleaned knowledge on the scope, content and significance of the most relevant safety related aspects regarding NPP operation.

Have acquired a detailed enough view of the main components of a risk informed regulatory oversight model for operating NPP, including: items included in the baseline inspection program; reactive inspections of significant events; assessment of inspection findings; development of NPP performance indicators which could give significant insights on licensee safety awareness and potentially emerging problems; definition of regulatory activities to cope with declining plant safety performance; and the enforcement process.

Understand the practical application to real cases of the above mentioned points.

pROGRAM

The five-days training sessions include class courses (4 days), the last day is going to be devoted to presentation of practical cases and subsequent round table discussions based on them. See next page where the full program is displayed.

examination

The exam will consist of a quiz that includes multiple choice questions regarding the topics covered during the course.

Teaching Methods

Lectures are the main way scheduled to introduce and explain the contents, also sufficient time is going to be devoted to discussions among lecturers and attendees on the lectures content and the practical cases to be presented.
