JOB TITLE: FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR

q Manage, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day food service operations for the district; analyze effectiveness, assure compliance with District, State and Federal laws, regulations and safety and sanitation procedures
q Plan menus, assuring compliance with regulations and requirements; estimate and order amount of food and supplies needed; monitor and control expenditures; maintain assigned budget
q Select food service employees; direct, assign, schedule and evaluate food service personnel; conduct training sessions for new employees
q Inspect lunchroom and kitchen area regularly to assure compliance with health, safety and sanitation requirements and regulations
q Plan work schedules and coordinate daily work for efficient use of labor; receive calls from employees and substitutes as necessary
q Conduct training of cafeteria managers to develop work schedules and production standards, prepare quality meals and understand and use record-keeping and ordering systems in accordance with district policy; instruct, train and assist employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety
q Maintain, prepare and review a variety of menu production records, inventories, logs and reports; accumulate data and input information into a computer as appropriate and file documents as necessary
q Supervise and participate in food preparation and distribution to District students and staff; plan and coordinate food service operations with school activities to improve school and community relations and increase student participation
q Communicate with students, staff and faculty and outside organizations to exchange information, receive suggestions and resolve issues related to food service
q Participate in, schedule and attend professional development meetings and workshops
q Oversee the preparation of the food service program operating budget; control and limit expenditures; analyze financial and operating statements
q Consult with school principals, other administrators, parents and cafeteria managers to establish or revise operational policies; resolve problems involving food standards, labor costs and proper use of equipment and serving schedule; confer with fiscal services, purchasing warehouse, maintenance and operations and personnel department representatives to coordinate functions with food service operations
q Prepare a variety of food service records and reports; review timesheets, financial statements, operating reports, inventory and cost control records
q Prepare specifications for the purchase of food supplies and equipments; review bids, make purchases and recommendations as appropriate
q Conduct employee meetings to discuss and explain operating policies; plan and direct in-service workshops and training programs for food service personnel
q Plan, schedule and coordinate special events that utilize cafeteria facilities; compute costs of labor, supplies and food; assign personnel and order food
q Perform related duties as assigned
q Keeps Superintendent informed on matters of concern
q Complete all required training and attend professional development sessions
q Performs assigned tasks in a timely manner
q Consistently displays self-control with parents, students and school personnel
q Maintains a clean workstation (desk, office, etc.) and does maintenance as needed
q Be clean, neat and appropriately dressed
q Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility
q Show enthusiasm, interest and concern for the total program and its efficient operation
q Operate equipment in a safe manner at all times
q Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Metcalfe County Public Schools
