Band-Aides West Senior Scholarship

Student Cover Letter

(Revised 2018)

Congratulations! You made it! Senior year!

This letter will provide you with the guidelines for the Band-Aides West Senior Band Scholarship. The $500 scholarship winner will be announced at the band banquet. There are a few steps for you to complete to apply for this award.

  1. Complete the application. It is required that your parents be members of BAW. The minimum allowable cumulative GPA is 2.5. The rest of the application is fairly self-explanatory.
  2. Write a resume of your work in band and other musical outlets during your high school years. You need to focus primarily on your band work. A minimum of 4 years in band is required to apply for the scholarship, but tell us everything you’ve done. This resume should be more music-heavy than the other resumes you’ve done for other scholarships. Refer to the resume rubric guide for suggestions. You also get credit for auditioning for District and State band, and for taking private lessons. Make sure you list those activities on your resume if you’ve done them, and for how many years.

We’re also interest in your community service, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles in and out of band during your high school career. Please list them in detail on your resume. Some ideas are on the resume rubric guide.

  1. Write a 500-word essay that answers the question, “How has your participation in music affected yourself and others?”

It is said that “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Plato

The essay should be double spaced and typed in size 12 font. Please refer to the essay rubric for more information.

  1. Include an official copy of your high school transcript that shows grades from the last 2 years. This needs to be an official, sealed transcript from the SMW registrar.
  2. Submit all documentation in a sealed envelope to Mr. Thomas by 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 27.
