Position:Management Accountant

Responsible to:Head of Finance and Business Affairs (HFBA)

Salary:c. £45,000

Date:From June 2012

Person Specification

The Management Accountant is responsible for the effective running of the Finance department. It is therefore important that the person who fills this role meets the following criteria:

  • Qualifiedtechnically capable accountant;
  • Excellent knowledge of charity reporting;
  • Organised, efficient and able to prioritise effectively;
  • Excellent communication skills to all members of the organisation and the ability to communicate complex financial issues to non-financial staff;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Experience of managing and developing teams;
  • Proactive and willing to take on more responsibility as and when needed in order to support the HFBA.

Key responsibilities

1)Oversee management accounts preparation and Finance & Audit Committee meetings

2)Develop the team’s skill base to enable them to progress through the finance function

3)Day to day financial reporting and control for BAFTA

4)Lead in preparation of annual budget, financial statements and annual audit

5)Company payroll

6)Support to the finance function based at 195 Piccadilly

7)Support the HFBA for Business Affairs activity

8)Deputise for the HFBA in her absence

Specific responsibilities

Financial management

1)Budget holder reporting

2)Development of internal financial controls and procedures

3)Management of purchasing system

4)Cash and treasury management

5)Assist with commercial projects

6)Bank Liaison

Annual budget preparation

7)Responsible for developing the annual budget in conjunction with the HFBA.

Management accounts

8)Responsibility for and delegation to the team of monthly budget holder meetings, discussion of actuals vs. budget and variance analysis.

9)Review of current management account pack and recommendations for reporting improvement, including the development of a monthly dashboard.

10)Preparation of monthly management accounts for distribution and presentation to the Finance and Audit Committee, Commercial Committee and the Boardencompassing:

-Coordination of monthly routine including team inputs

-Review of monthly journals including intercompany account reconciliations

-Preparation of reporting pack:

  • P&L summary
  • Detailed overhead review
  • Summary results for Branches
  • Cashflow projection
  • Balance Sheet
  • Designated and Restricted fund reporting
  • Accompanying commentary
  • Ad hoc reporting and analysis

Financial statements and audit

11)Guide the team through the preparation of financial statements and comprehensive audit files for Group companies.

12)Draft corporation tax computation

13)Assistance as necessary with compliance and statutory returns – including Charity SORP compliance

14)Oversee the relationship with the 195 Piccadilly finance team

15)Review of 195’s monthly management accounts and commentary

16)Awareness of the financial controls and operating environment

Payroll

17)Monthly administration and accounting

18)Preparation of staff P11ds

19)Liaise with company Pensions and Healthcare advisor

20)Responsibility for all HMRC employee related matters

Corporate

21)Assist at corporate events if required

Systems

22)Development of SAGE systems and reporting

23)Review of existing month end processes for streamlining opportunities

24)Key participator in IT and other systems development

Management

25)Manage and develop the finance team

26)Review of work/training of finance team

Administrative

27)Assist with company secretarial as necessary

Business Affairs

28)Provide support to the HFBA on Business Affairs matters relating to Archive, Production and Partnerships.

IT Systems

29)Provide support to the HFBA on IT Systems and Controls, including maintenance of the Database.

General

30)Ad hoc telephone enquiries

31)Occasional attendance at Board/Committee meetings

32)Undertaking other duties as required to support the HFBA
