Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education Awards Criteria

TED BONDI ’51 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

  1. Be a junior or senior major in Kinesiology, Sports Studies and Physical Education (KSSPE)
  2. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  3. Have shown outstanding leadership in the classroom and in co-curricular activities
  4. Be considering at a career in physical education, coaching and/or athletic administration after graduating from Brockport
  5. Be a standout citizen in his/her hometown and/or on campus

EUGENE C. FISH SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

- be a current or transfer student with at least two semesters of study remaining.

- be accepted in Physical Education Teacher Education concentration/major in the Department of

KSSPE.

- Demonstrate academic excellence, a record of volunteerism, and a commitment to teaching, as

judged by the Scholarship Committee of that department.

- Demonstrate financial need as expressed in the application essay.

RUTH GARIS AWARD:

Eligibility:

  1. Be a KSSPE major with junior status (54 or more credit hours) pursuing teacher certification in physical education.
  2. Possess an overall GPA of 3.25 or better at Brockport
  3. Demonstrate excellence in the performance of an outdoor activity including, but not limited to backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, alpine/cross country skiing, snowboarding, golf and the game of soccer.

EDWARD M. MATEJKOVIC SPORT MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP:

Eligibility and Criteria:

Candidate must:

1. Be a junior or senior in the undergraduate Sport Management program in the

Department of KSSPE.

2. Demonstrate the following academic excellence as judged by the selection

committee ofthe Department of KSSPE: a.) grade point

average of at least 3.0 and b.) a core grade point average of at least 3.25.

3. Have completed the first two core courses of the program.

  1. Be scheduled to complete the Sport Management Internship within the following two semesters.
  2. Demonstrate the potential for excellence in the career of Sport Management as judged by the selection committee of the Department of KSSPE.

ANNA McGINNIS AWARD

Eligibility:

- Be matriculated in one of the majors in KSSPE at the undergraduate level.

- Have a minimum of 24 credits and a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

- Be involved in co-curricular activities

- Demonstrate good character and leadership in their major and co-curricular involvement.

EUGENE F. ORBAKER AWARD FOR TEACHER EDUCATION IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

Eligibility and Criteria:

Candidates must:

- be accepted into the Physical Education Teacher Education major in the Department

of KSSPE at the undergraduate level.

- have demonstrated leadership qualities.

- have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater at the time of the award

- demonstrate a commitment to the career of teaching and good potential to be a teacher as

judged by the selection committee.

EVELYN SCHURR AWARD:

Eligibility:

To be eligible, the candidate must:

-be registered in the Physical Education Teacher Certification Program (K-12)

-have completed student teaching

Criteria:

The candidate must have:

-earned an overall Grade Point Average of at least 3.40

-demonstrated exceptional skill and sensitivity in working with children

-given evidence of commitment to education as indicated through joint recommendation of his or

her SBTE and the College Supervisor

CAROL SUSSWEIN AWARD:

Eligibility:

Candidate selected to receive the Carol Susswein Memorial Award must:

- be a sophomore or junior majoring in kinesiology, sport studies or physical education

- have a strong academic average

- be involved in extracurricular professional activities

- show a strong interest in and aptitude for performance

Criteria:

Candidate selected to receive the Carol Susswein Memorial Award must:

- Demonstrate potential to become a leader in the field of kinesiology, sport studies or physical

education

- Demonstrate the ability to work well with fellow students and teachers

- Demonstrate the potential for continuing study in the field of kinesiology, sport studies or

physical education

DONALD M. TOWER AWARD:

To acknowledge a student who has demonstrated scholastic merit and professional promise. Must be a second semester senior (over 84 credits) and rank in the top 50% of their class.

CLARK V. WHITED SCHOLARSHIP:

Eligibility:

The recipient must:

- Be accepted in the Department of KSSPE

- Be a full time student in the Department of KSSPE with at least two semesters of study

remaining at the College

- Submit a completed application including an essay, and letters of recommendation from faculty

(Recommendation Forms available on the PES webpage)

- the essay, not to exceed two typed pages should include biographical information, educational,

professional and volunteer experiences, your goals, interests and statement of financial need

Criteria:

The recipient must demonstrate:

- academic excellence with a GPA of 3.25 or higher

- demonstrated a financial need through the required essay for application

- leadership, character and ethical decision making in extracurricular activities

- volunteerism and service to the College

CLARK V. WHITED/JP MORGAN CHASE SCHOLARSHIP:

Eligibility:

The recipient must:

- Be accepted in the Department of KSSPE

- Have at least two semesters of study remaining to complete the program

- Submit a complete application, essay, and letters of recommendation from faculty in KSSPE.
