SESSION – GI Biopsies – One of the most common causes of septic peritonitis in dogs and cats is dehiscence of full-thickness biopsy sites. A recent study in JSAP (2005) demonstrated a 12% mortality following breakdown of enterotomies. An editorial in the same journal suggested that the role of surgical biopsies should be reconsidered.
