2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Exceptional Performance by General Staff
The Vice-Chancellor offers annual awards in recognition of exceptional performance by members of General staff. Awards are available in three categories:
· Individual staff members up to and including HEW 5;
· Individual staff members HEW 6 and above;
· Teams (any size, two or more individual staff members of which at least one is a General staff member).
The awards will be presented by the Vice-Chancellor at a public ceremony. Individual nominees will receive a framed certificate. Nominated teams will receive a framed certificate. Individual winners will receive an allocation of $5,000. Winning teams will receive an allocation of $10,000. Allocations are to be used for professional development purposes. Funds will be distributed through a restricted account and are to be expended within 12 months of the award.
While it is expected that one award will be given annually in each category, this may vary under exceptional circumstances depending on the quality of nominations. The selection panel may choose not to make an award if there are no suitable nominations.
ELIGIBILITY
General staff across the University, who have been employed for at least two years on continuing or fixed-term contracts of 0.4 FTE or more, and have not been nominated in the previous three years, are eligible for nomination. General staff are those members of staff employed under Higher Education Workers (HEW) position classifications.
CRITERIA
Awards will be made for an exceptional performance, which exceeds the normal requirements of the nominee’s or nominees' substantive position, in advancing the University’s strategic goals, pursuing relevant operational priorities and modelling exemplary conduct or service.
The following criteria will be used to assess nominations:
· Degree of excellence: Extent to which the achievement of the nominee(s) reflects University goals, priorities and/or ethical conduct beyond the normal call of duty and has added value to the University. This criterion receives the greatest weighting;
· Service Improvement or Innovation or Efficiency gain: Extent to which there is service improvement and/or innovation and/or efficiency gain to the University and/or stakeholders arising out of the efforts of the nominee(s).
Specific examples can be used to show the extent to which the nomination is supported by documenting the achievement and the value added. This can include support from beyond the nominee’s or nominees’ immediate work colleagues, and may include support from outside the University.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Nominations may be made by any CDU staff member (including self-nomination). Nominations are to be sighted and signed by the Head of School/Director or equivalent.
Documentation making a case for a nomination should include:
· Completed cover sheet on pages 3 and 4 of this document;
