Break a leg!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are excited to announce that this year’s South Elgin High School Musical is Oklahoma! In order to prepare for a successful show, it is vital that students are able to attend all rehearsals. New information, music and staging is taught at each rehearsal and it is quite difficult to make-up these instructions for one individual when the majority have already learned, practiced and moved forward. Please examine the calendar provided on the SEHS Choral website and schedule (or re-schedule) conflicts accordingly. Take note that your son or daughter may not be needed at certain rehearsals depending on his/her role in the show. This schedule may change slightly throughout the next three months and some rehearsals are TBA at this time; if necessary, a new schedule will be sent home approximately a week in advance of any schedule changes. Also, the final two weeks of rehearsals can be long and stressful. Please be accommodating as some rehearsals may run longer than scheduled in order to adequately prepare for performances. Important: If a student misses instruction for a particular song or scene he/she will not perform in that song or scene. In addition, one unexcused absence may result in dismissal from the cast. If your student will be absent from school, please contact either of us so that he or she will be excused from rehearsal. Furthermore, your son or daughter must maintain passing grades in order to participate. A grade check must be completed prior to auditions; if a student is struggling in classes, we may not be able to consider him or her for a leading role on stage or in the pit.

In addition, to participate in the show each cast and pit member must pay an activity fee of $50.00. This fee will cover a cast t-shirt, scripts and music, lunch between our in-school matinee performances, and dinner between our two Saturday performances. This fee can be paid by check or cash and is due at auditions. Checks are made payable to South Elgin High School. Additionally, students will need to provide their own make-up and may also need to provide some of their own costume pieces for the show.

We are looking forward to a fun and exciting production process. However, any show requires a huge amount of work; to help our students perform a top quality production we are asking for any additional help you may be able to offer. There will be a parent/cast meeting to discuss the show and areas where help is needed. We will meet at 7:00p.m. on Monday, December 9th in theAuditorium. Please be prepared to offer assistance in an area where you may be able (i.e. Props, costumes, supervision, box office, concessions, set construction, publicity, fund raising, etc.). More information will follow at the meeting. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Thank you,

Karen BrhelCarrie Crowe

(This portion must be signed and turned in by your son or daughter at auditions.)

My son/daughter, ______, has my permission to be cast in Oklahoma! I have carefully read the rehearsal schedule/calendar that is posted on-line and understand that my son/daughter must attend the mandatory rehearsals and performance dates listed. I also understand that my child may be removed from the cast due to any unexcused absence from rehearsal, unacceptable behavior, ineligibility due to failing grades, or poor school attendance. I have included the $50.00 activity fee with this permission form, and I am aware of the parent/cast meeting at 7:00p.m. on Monday, December 9th.

By signing this form, I indicate that I understand I must be passing 5 classes while involved in this production; otherwise, I would be considered ineligible by South Elgin High School's extracurricular activity policy. Furthermore, I realize that my adherence to the rehearsal schedule is crucial for the success of this production. I understand that missing rehearsal when new instruction is given may result in being removed from a scene or song. I also understand that one unexcused absence from a rehearsal may result in being dismissed from the cast. Finally, I understand that I must turn in 1) this form, 2) the activity fee, 3) application and

4) grade check form at auditions in order to be considered for a lead role.
