Association Alliance Committee Report Item # 20
The Association Alliance Committee has been busy of late, I have attended several conferences of my fellow committee members and pressing for closer interaction between the organizations. At press time I’m currently at the Florida Engineering Society Annual Conference where one of the Association Alliance committee members (Danielle Slaterpryce) steps down as President of FES. Last month I was there as she was sworn in as President of FACERS replacing Brian Barnes the other Association Alliance Committee member! We have all been promoting further cooperation on legislative and educational efforts. We also plan on beginning to get more involved with ASCE and the Florida League of Cities.
On the legislative side of the house HB 611/SB 616 passed overwhelming and was signed by Governor Crist on 6/18/09. This bill was similar in nature to the bill last year limiting public agencies from performing construction in-house. The FAC legislative team took the lead on limiting the damage to Public Works. Some changes were made raising the cost threshhold from $200,000 to $300,000. Below is a link to follow if you are interested in the specifics.
