Mark Herman named Delmar Cengage Learning/ASE Master Automobile Technician of the YearTechnician From South Dakota Achieves Highest Scores on 2012 ASE Certification Exams
Clifton Park, NY – November15, 2012– Delmar, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education,today announced that Mark Herman of Aberdeen, SD has been named the Delmar Cengage Learning/Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile Technician of the Year.
The award, sponsored by Delmar, recognizes the automotive technician earning the highest composite score on the ASE certification exams, the industry standard for automotive service professionals. Herman’s scores were the highest of more than 350,000 professionals, for which Delmar awarded him with a cash prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to the annual ASE Board of Director’s Industry Awards Dinner, in San Antonio, TX where he was presented with the award.

John Saia, technical & body training development manager, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. was delighted to learn that Herman, a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician (MDT), was recognized as the 2012 Cengage Learning/ASE Master Automobile Technician of the Year. “It’s no coincidence that Mark is again being recognized as the ‘Best-Of-The-Best’,” said Saia. “Having achieved not only the highest level of ASE certification as an ASE Master Automobile Technician, Mark has also achieved the highest level of Toyota Technician certification as a Toyota “Master Diagnostic Technician” (fewer than 10% of Toyota Technicians achieve this special certification level). Mark continues to demonstrate his uncompromising, dedication, competence, and professionalism because Mark believes in lifelong learning, the value of ASE Certification, and in setting the example for others to emulate.”
Herman has been working as an automotive technician for 31 years and is currently working as a Master Diagnostic Technician at Harr Motors in Aberdeen, SD. Highlights from Herman’s career include being named the two-time Auto Tech VICA State Champion, the four-time Toyota Kansas City Region Champion and National Champion of the 1994 Toyota Master Tech Skills Competition, and the two-time national winner and 2012 district winner of the Honda Top Tech Challenge, among other accomplishments.
