Associate Dean for Graduate Education, Research, and Administration Job Description

The Associate Dean for Graduate Education, Research, and Administration is responsible for providing general leadership for graduate and research programs in the College of Education, and for providing leadership in the day-to-day administration of the College. The Associate Dean is designated as the Graduate Advisor by the GraduateSchool for the College of Education and serves as the bridge between the Graduate Faculty in the college and the GraduateSchool. In addition, the Associate Dean provides leadership and support for research programs involving external funding. The duties and responsibilities of this position shall include:

  • Providing general leadership for graduate education, research, and administration for the College of Education .
  • Serving as Graduate Advisor for the College.
  • Promoting the improvement of graduate education in the COE by working with department chairs and faculty to ensure that research assistants (RA), graduate assistants (GA), and graduate part-time teaching instructors (GPTI) enjoy a meaningful, stimulating, and professionally rewarding experience.
  • Facilitating regular meetings of the COE Graduate Faculty on matters relating to the quality and enhancement of graduate education in the College.
  • In cooperation with the Department Chairs, coordinating the selection, appointment, and performance assessment of research and graduate assistants and part-time teaching instructors.
  • Promoting modification of graduate programs to meet changing needs.
  • Promoting cooperation and cohesiveness in graduate studies among the departments and programs of the College.
  • Coordinating (through the department chairs) off-campus graduate programs with the Office of Outreach and Extended Studies.
  • Coordinating admission of graduate students with department chairpersons and program coordinators.
  • Coordinating and administering the master's comprehensive evaluations.
  • Serving as the College of Education appointed representative on the University's Research Council.
  • Providing consultation services for faculty and graduate students.
  • Coordinating the research program for the College of Education .
  • Stimulating research and scholarship among the faculty of the College of Education by coordinating seminars and discussions on developing educational research, including seeking grant proposals and securing external funding.
  • Serving as the liaison with local, regional, and national professional organizations dedicated to research.
  • Facilitating the work of and serving as an ex officio member of the College's Graduate Academic Affairs Committee, Human Resources Committee, Research Committee, and Promotion & Tenure & Post tenure Review Committee.
  • Providing administrative supervisory leadership to the College's Technology Leadership Team (consisting of Technology Network Support Services, COE Technology Labs, Instructional Support Services, LearningResourceCenter , and Video Production Services).
  • Facilitating the work of the College's Leadership Council.
  • Generating reports and other related documents associated with Graduate Education, Research, and Administration in the College of Education .
  • Coordinating new faculty orientation (in association with Department Chairpersons).
  • Supervising COE mailroom/student workers and completion of travel applications and vouchers.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising COE Dean's Office staff personnel.
  • General personnel administration.
  • Facilitating searches and affirmative action matters.
  • Coordinating faculty development efforts (in conjunction with Department Chairpersons).
  • Administering and facilitating recommendations relating to the resources of the College (e.g., space, equipment, supplies, staff assignments)
  • Maintaining physical facility and property inventories.
  • Performing other responsibilities assigned by the Dean.
