Dark Room Bar Manager

Accountable to: Bars and Catering Manager

Responsible for: Dark Room supervisor and student staff

Hours: 37 hours

Location: SUART’s , Central London

JOB PURPOSE

·  To manage of the day- to-day performance of the The Dark Room Bar

·  To operationally deliver the resources strategic plan and objectives for the The Dark Room Bar

·  To manage 15+ student staff

·  To manage 1 full time staff

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Outlets

·  Ensure high levels of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the premises.

·  Jointly responsible for delivering the service of the days food and drink business.

·  Ensure the security of the cash and stock relating to the operation.

·  Booking and quoting for events as well as being responsible for the preparation and organisation up of events/entertainments including being responsible for the running of events when on shift, and pre-event organisation such as liaison with acts.

·  To manage the student staff and security when on shift in line with the regulations of the licence and the delivery of customer service and safety.

·  Responsible for the management of the student staff rota in accordance with the SU budgets

·  Responsible for the Students’ Union’s legal compliance. This includes carrying out the operation in accordance with the licensing principles.

·  Responsible for the day-to-day cash handling and banking for the bar and catering outlets.

·  Responsible for the co-ordination of regular marketing and promotion

·  Act as cashier and be responsible for cash in the appropriate tills, adhering to the Students’ Union’s financial procedures, including financial administration of for daily banking sheets and payroll forms for the bar and catering. (Refers to carrying out the process)

·  Responsible for monitoring stock control and ordering stock for the bar and catering on a day-to-day basis.

·  Responsible for day-to-day financial administration including cash handling, payroll and DBS. (Refers to responsibility for their accuracy)

·  Serve customers in accordance with the Students’ Union’s Customer. Care guidelines and set an example to other staff.

·  Adhere to all Health and Safety and Food Safety regulations as well as fire safety and procedures.

·  Take receipt of and organise deliveries for the bar and catering.

·  Main key holder and responsible for security of the premises and cash handling while on shift.

·  Responsible for the planning and assessing of the financial viability of promotions and events.

·  Responsible for general housekeeping while on shift.

·  Liaise with suppliers.

·  Responsible for all permanent staff, development and training.

·  Responsible for student staff development, training and standard of service delivery.

·  Responsible for layout, logistics and operations for bars and catering.

Operational development

·  Contribute to the operational plans.

·  Collect customer feedback to improve service delivery

Student staff supervision

·  Responsible for staff performance and customer service standards in the bar and catering.

·  Responsible for the staff disciplinary practices.

·  Contribute to the recruitment processes and selections.

·  Responsible for staff training and inductions.

GENERAL DUTIES

In addition, all staff has the following general duties laid out in their job descriptions:

·  To deliver and develop targets outlined in the Union’s strategic plan.

·  To contribute and assist in the Union’s planning processes and the review of its performance and systems.

·  Contribute to the positive and professional image of the Union and not act in such a manner as to bring the Union into disrepute.

·  To observe and uphold the requirements of the Union Constitution and act at all times in accordance with policies including equality of opportunity.

·  To undertake your own typing, filing, photocopying etc.

·  Undertake any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibilities of the post that may from time to time be reasonably requested.

·  To take ownership of, their Induction, Personal Review Programme, Departmental Staff Meetings and be responsible for carrying out duties with full regard to the rules, policies and procedures and conditions of service contained in the Staff Handbook, and within Departments of the Students’ Union.

·  A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g. Freshers and welcome festivals and any other key event, including elections, if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image, both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism.

·  Where you are required to work with volunteers you must support and manage them appropriately in line with the Students’ Union volunteer policy

·  Environmental consideration and environmental best practice is the responsibility of all Students’ Union staff
