Plans for classwork, homework, projects, and

grades for the weekof September 14, 2015

Student Objectives for Lessons 4 and 5: Scientific Notation and Operations and Scientific Notation

  • I can write numbers using scientific notation and express numbers written in scientific notation in standard form
  • I can determine how many times more one number is than another when given 2 numbers in scientific notation
  • I can convert between standard notation and scientific notation
  • I can perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation including problems with both decimal & scientific notation
  • I can solve real-world problems that require operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation
  • I can choose units of appropriate size for large and small measurements
  • I can interpret scientific notation that has been generated by technology

Day / Classwork / Homework / Upcoming Test/Project Dates
M / Introduction to Scientific Notation & Operations & Scientific NotationWriting in Scientific Notation; Converting between Scientific Notation and Standard Notation; / Operations with Exponents - Writing Exponential Expressions in Standard Form
Problems 1-12 / TEACHER MIXED PRACTICE TEST FRIDAY (70% grade)
T / I-Ready Math in the computer lab I-Ready Math (computer lab) - students will work on their I-ready math lessons in the computer lab. 60 minutes per week in I-ready math and I-ready reading are required. Students should do their best to pass the quizzes for each lesson. If a student fails a lesson quiz too many times, the program will “lock” him/her out of that lesson until he/she is able to get additional instruction from a teacher. This could affect the student’s ability to get all of his/her minutes in for the week if the additional assistance is not sought or time constraints keep the teacher from providing the needed assistance. The teacher can “unlock” the lesson once the student understands the material. / Operations with Exponents – Simplify Each Product
Problems 13-21 / TEACHER MIXED PRACTICE TEST FRIDAY (70% grade)
All assigned bellwork & homework is due on FRIDAY!
