Teacher Absence and Substitute Procedures

Below are the list of substitute teachers to contact if you are going to be absent from work, (i.e. sick day). If you are aware in advance that you are going to be absent and inform Mrs. Bronkema before the end of the school day, she will be happy to contact a sub for you. Please call school by 2:00PM on the day of your absence to let us know if you will be coming in the next day.
Please call substitutes from the list below prior to calling sub center. The earlier you call them the better chance you will have at retaining a substitute for your classroom (sub center begins calling substitutes at 6 a.m.) If you are able to reach a sub from our list, please call sub center immediately (773-553-1080) after the sub has agreed to work at Thorp School. Follow the prompt and press #2 (school). Please have the substitute’s ID number (see below), Thorp’s unit number (29301)along with your position number. This will be a recorded message so please have this information available when you place your call.
If you are unable to secure one of the substitutes from our list, then call sub center as a teacher and report your absence. Once your absence has been phoned in to sub center, please call in order until you physically speak to someone:
