QCan I work in a group?

QHow should I present my work?
AYou can present your work in a variety of ways, eg hand-written, word-processed, on video. However, what you choose should be appropriate to the task(s). For some work, e.g. presentations, coaching sessions, role-play, work experience, you will need to provide proof that you completed the task(s). A witness statement or observation sheet could be used for this. If you are unsure, check with your tutor.
QWhen I have finished, what do I need to hand in?
AYou need to hand in the work that you have completed for each task. Do not include any draft work or handouts unless these are asked for. When you hand in your work make sure that it is labelled, titled and in the correct order for assessing.
QHow will my work be assessed?
AYour work will be marked by an assessor in your centre. The assessor will mark the work using the assessment objectives and the grade descriptors in the qualification specification.

Scenario
Everybody’s Right
You have been appointed as the Equal Opportunities Officer for a large health and social care organisation in your area. You need to put together a training session, a display board, a magazine article and an investigative report to help raise awareness of equality, diversity, rights and discriminatory practice. You will need to train new workers from a variety of settings includingresidential care, day care, nursing care, domiciliary care and early years care. You will also need to provide information to the local community about national initiatives and their impact upon local services.

Tasks
Task 1:Understanding Equality, Diversity and Rights

For the first part of your training session, you must prepare a presentation that explains the concepts of equality, diversity and rights in relation to health and social care. The presentation should include an exploration of issues concerning diversity, the impact it may have on health and social care services and provision and how services should recognise equality and the rights of people who use them, in order to provide effective, good quality care.
To accompany the presentation you must prepare a number of case studiesthat describe how practitioners should apply values of care in a health or social care service. These can be written as short role-plays or as short scenarios for the care workers to discuss during the training the session.
To conclude your training session prepare a handout for the care workers to take away from the session that analyses the benefits of understand diversity in relation to health and social care
The evidence for this will be:
- A set of presentation slides that that explain the concepts of equality, diversity and rights in relation to health and social care(P1)
- A collection of case studies that describe how practitioners should apply values of care in a health or social care service. (M1)
- A handout for the care workers to take away from the session that analyses the benefits of understanding diversity in relation to health and social care(D1)
Task 2:Discriminatory practice….what’s the impact?
Assessment Criterion P2 and P3
Your training session has impressed your team leader and she has now asked that you update the display in the entrance to your service to demonstrate to all visitors that discriminatory practice is not tolerated in your service.
Your display must describe what is meant by discriminatory practice in health and social care as well as describing the potential effects of discriminatory practice on those who use health or social care services.
Your display can be in any format you wish and include as many sections as you require. Try to be imaginative and catch people’s attention as they enter the building. It needs to be aimed at all visitors including people who use the service, staff members and other professionals as well as family members and other visitors.
The evidence for this task will be:
- Display materials that describewhat is meant by discriminatory practice in health and social care and describes the potential effects of discriminatory practice on people who use services (P2 and P3)
Task 3:National initiatives – local practice
Assessment Criterion (P4, M2 and D2)
Having done such a good job on the training session and the display board, your team leader has suggested that you provide further information to the general public by writing an article for a health and social care magazine.
Your article needs to review current national initiatives in order to assess their impact and effectiveness in promoting anti-discriminatory practice. The article should include a review of the Disability Discrimination Act, covering both the strengths and weaknesses of the Act in order to evaluate its success in fulfilling an essential function; supporting the rights of disabled people in the community. You may include an investigation into the facilities in your local area that highlights the access available to people with disabilities.
The evidence for this task will be:
- An article for a magazine that:

- Explains the possible impact of the Disability Discrimination Act in Promoting anti-discriminatory practice (M2)

Task 4:Anti-discrimination – Putting it into practice
Assessment Criterion P5 and M3
The local community have been very impressed with your work so far and have asked you to research a local setting and write a report about the ways they promote anti-discriminatory practice.
You will need to visit the setting and/or research its website and write your report based on your findings. You will need to describe and give examples of how anti-discriminatory practice is promoted within the setting. You will also need to describe and give examples of ways in which the setting the uses national initiatives to promote anti-discriminatory practice.
Although your report should be based around the one setting you have researched, you should also include examples from other settings in order to highlight a specific point you wish to make.
The evidence for this task will be:
- A report that describes
