Title:Children’s PastorSupport Staff: Non-Exempt

Reports to:Directory of Family Ministry Date Effective: May 1, 2014

Position Description:

The Children’s Pastor manages all childcare provided at Truro, provides oversight for Preschool Children’s (WEE) Worship and ElementaryChildren’s Worship (KidZone), assists lay leadership in running and implementing Elementary Sunday School classes, and organizes and participates in special ministry events and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision of childcare

  • Help to create an environment of ministry, so that childcare is seen as one of Truro’s ministries, rather than as a “service” we offer.
  • Schedule all childcare workers for regular programs and events across all ministries at Truro.
  • Recruit, supervise and minister to the childcare staff. This includes large group training, individual meetings, and other mechanisms for maintaining high quality, ministry driven, childcare workers.
  • Help create curriculum and structure for all childcare events.
  • Calculate and submit the childcare staff payroll twice a month.

Children’s Ministry Responsibilities

  • Select and organize curriculum for WEE Worship and Kidzone.
  • Recruit and oversee Wee Worship and Kidzone Volunteers for weekly programs as well as for other Family Ministry events.
  • Lead the Kidzone team and training weekly training time.
  • Assist with event coordination of,and participate in, Family Ministry Events, including, but not limited to, Advent Events, Movie Nights, fall Festival, etc.
  • Liaison and assist with lay leaders in developing and implementing Sunday School Programs.
  • Train staff and ministry volunteers on the Sexual Misconduct Prevention which includes teaching both Child and Adult Classes as needed.
  • Various other duties, as assigned by the Director of Family Ministry, that relate to Family and Children’s Ministry.

Education and Training:

Bachelor’s degree or related experience and training required.

Experience and Skills:

3 years experience in children’s ministry, volunteer or paid

Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook a plus

Must be team member

Must be detail oriented, and able to manage numerous activities concurrently

Must have high integrity and ethical standards

Must be respectful and supportive of the church and its mission

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

The physical demands are those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to stand, walk and sit
  • The use of hands, reaching, and stooping
  • Ability to walking up multiple flights of stairs
  • Ability to lift 30lbs
