Learning Outcome 1

1.1 Structure of the music industry: artists, composers, management, lawyers, record companies, publishers, distributors, retail channel, royalty collection societies (for example, PRS).
1.2 Main differences: size of company, speed of production, distribution channels, exposure, capital.
1.3 Historical and other trends, opportunities and market directions: for example decrease in music sales, changing technology etc.
1.4 Licensing and copyright law: relating to copying, adapting, distributing, public performances, publishing.

2.1 Genres: for example popular, rock etc.
2.2 Styles: subset of a genre for example Rock and Roll is a style of Blues music.
2.3 & 2.4 Target audiences: age, location, social factors, trends, economic issues.

3.1 Types of media and technology: radio, TV, film, print, websites, file sharing software, digital media players, podcasts.
3.2 Effects of changing technology: change in structure of music industry; sales, employment, new talent, legal/copyright issues.
