Aspire scholarships video transcript

Gracie: They had me like figuring out where I want to go, and like what I want to be.

Morgan: Well I think Aspire is a chance for students who may or may not be able to get into university, to give them a chance and also to show them what university is all about.

Lahni: Before I got the scholarship I didn’t realise how much sort of stuff was involved and available, I was like… a thousand dollars and that was it. Yeah I get to meet new people, talk to sort of people who have got interesting stories about before uni and after uni and what they’ve done with their life and how they’ve gotten there.

Dean: It also just gives you an introduction to university life and helps you decide what sort of things you might do if you decide to go to university. So that’s one of the main reasons I was looking forward to this because it sort of helped me decide what I want to do.

Arthicka: Financially as well… yeah like I wasn’t able to pay for a trip last week because I didn’t want to ask my mum because I thought you know, I would make her feel bad. But yeah, and then I remembered I had my Aspire scholarship so I just went to the finance office and they said it was okay and everything was covered. They help you kind of zone in on what you want to do in the future.

Hayley: Aspire’s just not for finding your goal, it helps you to like make new friends and feel confident about yourself.

Nathan: There’s no question that it gives them a boost in terms of their self-confidence but more importantly like I said before, it allows them to dream a bit broader because they‘ll get exposed to experiences that they didn’t really understand or comprehend before.

Morgan: Even if you’re not quite sure what you want to do and stuff, it’s just really also really good on your resume to see actually that you’ve been able to get the Aspire scholarship out of all the people that put their names up for it. It’s just really, really good for you.
