Board Meeting Minutes

11/22/2010

President Robin Gomez called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon.

The minutes from the July board meeting were approved.

Board Member list-there is a vacancy on the board. Dr. Daly nominated Jeff Kronschnabl of St. Pete College. Robin Gomez will reach out to Jeff.

The current board members are-Robin Gomez, David Hamilton, Meagan Decker, Chris Trovato, Kim Loutzenhiser, Cheryl Arends, Gil Machin and Albert Coleman.

Robin Gomez provided the current financial report. The current bank balance is 3420.80.

Chris Trovato is being added as a signer to the account. Recent activity on the account includes the September luncheon and a $200 donation to the Shriner’s Organization. There have been some changes to the Checking Account-the Bank will now charge a fee if the balance drops below $1000.

Awards Ceremony-May6 of 2011, Robin Gomez pointed out the awards that ASPA Suncoast traditionally gives out each year (Public Service Awards, Outstanding Administrator, Public Management Innovation, Board Service Award and the Suncoast Chapter Hall of Fame award). Robin pointed out that we should be considering these awards throughout the year and who would be a possible candidate. Recommendation was made to e-mail out the criteria starting in January or place on the website.

With regards to last year’s rewards ceremony, the company that made the awards charged the same even though we only got two plaques. Possibly we should consider a different company for next year’s awards.

Robin Gomez presented David Hamilton his award at a Hernando County commission meeting over the summer.

Luncheon Series-

December 14-invited Fl league of Cities, this is the only day that Shriners is available. Next planned meeting will be towards the end of January 2011.

Speaker suggestions included-House Speaker pro temp from New Port Richey, Jon Lake, Bob Lee, Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor. Additionally Robin Gomez wrote to the secret service regarding a speaker.

Committee Reports

By-Laws-The next step in the amendment of the by-law process is to circulate the new version to the membership.

Membership-Robin Gomez reports that there are 79 current members. He is going to send out an e-mail reminder about renewing memberships as 29 recently expired.

Student Membership-Target a student member to hold this role.

Special Events-For the December meeting members will be encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for toys for tots.

Webmaster and Newsletter Editor-Don Menzel reports that he needs continual submissions from board members. He would like to get out a newsletter by the first week of December with a holiday theme. He encouraged members to spread some cheer and to e-mail him with any news or events.

Other business

Florida State PA Conference will be May 13th at USF-Marshall center

2011 is the 40 year anniversary for Suncoast Chapter. Idea was presented to put together a celebration committee to possibly organize something for next fall.
