“A TIME TO GIVE BACK” – We were very happy and proud of our former child in Mango Tree House named Mark Alas. He is now a public school teacher in Marikina City. He encouraged his students to share their blessings by giving school supplies and bags to our present students. He also testified of how his life changed through the guidance and support of the Mango staff and supporters. He challenged our children to listen and love all the people behind this home because they will have a fruitful life at the end of it.

A one-on-one life coaching activity was held as part of the staff development program of Mango. The staff disclosed the struggles they had in terms of work, followed by discussing stress management using questionnaire tool indicator, teaching how to communicate effectively, coaching in dealing with children’s fear, using consequences of behavior to train the child and teaching them to be responsible.

Cashew has formally announced the opening of their enrollment for S.Y. 2016-2017. The reception from parents were overwhelming. Teachers were hands-on to evaluate and to initially orient the parents of their duties and responsibilities to their children and the school if they were to be admitted. There were more Nursery parents who wished their child to study at Cashew for this year.

All incoming Nursery students were evaluated during their pre-assessment to know their initial capabilities from their informal learning at home or in the other day care schools they have attended. This is to evaluate what the students know, where they are good at and who has more advanced learning than others. Their test results showed that most of the older students have gained advanced learning and have shown faster learning skills.

Cashew teachers were invited for a 2 day-seminar workshops at Papaya Academy. The seminar tackled about Child Bullying, Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) and Code of Ethics for Teachers that were all significant to the teachers as facilitators of learning to the students. The topics were very informative and have put new mindsets for the teachers who have gained so much at the seminar event.

Cabanatuan recorded highest heat index of 52.3 Celcius

Get ready to face hotter days ahead

Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija recorded an extremely hot temperature on Tuesday, but get ready to face hotter days ahead, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) said.

In its report, the Pagasa reported Cabanatuan registered a heat index of 52.3 degrees Celsius last Tuesday, followed by Clark Airport in Pampanga (at 51.9 degrees Celsius and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte at 46.7 degrees Celsius.
In Pagasa’s forecast heat index this week, Cagayan province’s heat index could reach a maximum 39.2 degrees Celsius by Sunday.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila’s heat index will range between 37.9 degrees Celsius and 38.5 degrees Celsius for the next four days.

Last Tuesday afternoon, Metro Manila recorded its highest air temperature so far this year at 36.3 degrees Celsius, which PAGASA said was equivalent to a heat index of 45.4 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA defines “heat index” as the apparent temperature or what humans feel as the air temperature affects the body. It is higher than air temperature by at least two to three degrees Celsius depending on the amount of humidity present in the atmosphere.

Likewise, last Tuesday, PAGASA recorded extremely high heat indices in several of its monitoring stations, such as Ambulong in Batangas (44.9 degrees Celsius), General Santos City in South Cotabato (44.4 degrees Celsius), Guiuan in Eastern Samar (44.6 degrees Celsius), Legazpi City in Albay (44.5 degrees Celsius), Roxas City in Capiz (44.4 degrees Celsius), and Sangley Point in Cavite (50.2 degrees Celsius).

With heat indices between 32 to 41 degrees Celsius, PAGASA advised residents to observe “extreme caution” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible” and “continuing activity could result to heat stroke.”

Meanwhile, with heat indices between 41 and 54 degrees Celsius, PAGASA said there is impending “danger” as ” heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.”

If heat index is over 54 degrees Celsius, PAGASA said there is “extreme danger” as “heat stroke is imminent.”

To prevent heat stroke, PAGASA has these tips for the public.

1. Stay indoors as much as possible, if air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine.

2. Wear lightweight and light colored clothing. Light colors will reflect the sun’s energy. Drink plenty of water regularly. The body needs water to keep cool.

3. Water is the safest liquid to drink during heat emergencies. Avoid drinking liquor because it dehydrates the body.

4. Eat small meals however eat more often. Avoid eating foods of high in protein which can increase metabolic heat.

DEVOTION TIME:

Choose the Good Part and Be Blessed

…”I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17

God instructs us for our own benefit. He wants us to profit in every area of our lives—health, finances, career, marriage and family relationships. The Bible says that it is God who teaches us to profit. And it is He who leads us in the way that we should go.

God always has our best interests at heart. We only have to sit at His feet, listen to His Word and just have fresh, daily communion with Him, and He will make our way fruitful.

But we are constantly bombarded with things to do every day, like sending the kids to school, attending a business meeting or making a sales presentation. Likewise, in church, there are just as many important things to attend to—ministering to the needy, reaching out to the lost and healing the sick. But you know what? All these things will be taken care of when we sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to His Word.

What was the Lord’s response to Martha’s complaint that her sister was sitting at His feet and listening to Him, instead of helping her with the many tasks? “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41–42)

Yet, many of us are like Martha. We worry about many things. And we are so busy that we have no time to sit at Jesus’ feet to listen to His Word and enjoy communion with Him. When we fail to draw from Him, we end up running on our own strength, and relying on our own flesh and wisdom to get things done. Listen, you can never have a plan that is better than God’s!

My friend, do you want to be led by God’s wisdom and timing in your decision-making? Then, make it a point to choose the good part like Mary did. Spend time with Jesus, open your Bible and say, “Lord, speak to me.” You will find that your heavenly Father takes care of your troubles, and teaches and leads you to profit!
