ASCE-SEI COMMITTEE ON COLD-FORMED STEEL

MEETING ON JULY 25, 2008

DENVER, COLORADO

Summary of meeting:

  1. Attendees: Don Allen, Jay Larson, Ben Schafer, Nabil Rahman, Karl Schroeder, Tom Sputo, Roger LaBoube, Wei-Wen Yu, Sam Esterling, Chris Moen, Jim Crews, Ed Kile.
  2. Current Business: Proposals for two sessions have been submitted for 2009 ASCE-SEI Structures Congress in Austin, TX to be held on April 30 to May 2, 2009. This committee will be informed if the sessions have been accepted by September 15, 2008. A suggestion was made to contact the steering committee to verify receipt of the proposals.
  3. New business: A proposed outline was distributed for the development of a Wikipedia page for Cold-Formed Steel. The revised outline and the list of volunteers for the creation of various portions of the Wikipedia page are listed below. The contributors were requested to provide their section by October, 2008. The text can be either submitted directly to the Wikipedia page or to Ed Kile for insertion into the Wikipedia page.
  4. Other activities: It was suggested that a session entitled “Specification of Cold-Formed Steel” could be presented to the following organizations: ASCE Architectural Engineering Institute, Construction Specifications Institute, and American Institute of Architects. Ed Kile will pursue these possibilities.
  5. ASCE-SEI Request for Proposals – Special Projects: Roger LaBoube suggested an idea for a special project that could be submitted to ASCE for funding. The special project would consist of a joint project with ASCE-SEI committees on wood and masonry for the development of a publication entitled “Low Rise Building Design”. Ed Kile will explore the interest in this project with the other committees.
