As You Implement Clinical Systems What Questions Arise

As you implement clinical systems what questions arise?

“what is the electronic signature – how do you define it”

“importing physiological data from monitors into the EMR – should nurse validate before data is stored in the EMR”

“how do you define what data should be included in documentation”

“Error explanations– changes – how much should be in strikethrough format? Or should it be in that format?”

“How is ‘timeliness of charting defined?”

“Are ‘default’ answers in forms permitted?

Ancillary Training

  1. We are in the process of working our a training schedule for our ancillary departments to the Electronic Heath Record. We would like to post this question to you for feedback for those of you that include ancillary depts for the EHR. How does your organization handle EHR training for ancillary departments? We're wanting to know who provides the training; how long the training sessions are: and how you know the training was effective. Patient Safety/ JCAHO

  1. I was wondering if anyone else was involved in responding at their facility to TJC Sentinel Event Alert #42 Specifically how you are addressing the 13 suggestion actions to help prevent patient harm related to the implementation and use if HIT and converging technologies. I would love to see how others are responding to this sentinel event alert to utilize the responses as a benchmark. Distance Education/ CBT

  1. I am looking for a computerized education software for distance education. I am familiar with Blackboard but I know there has to be other vendors out there that can be used. I need at least 3 vendors comparisons before I take any info to our IT steering committee. The basic features I need are an online library of teaching documents for reference with interactive index, the ability to link to web resources, the ability to link to LAN resources for videos, etc, automatic grading module for testing of competencies, etc, it must be able to be accessed via the employee page on our hospital website , and the ability to set up user templates for different accesses (physicians, nurses, PCT's, rad dept, billing office, etc.). I would also like to use this product for in-house education/reference for clinical staff and nursing students. Any input would be much appreciated.
