A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MRS. CHARLOTTE LUNSFORD BERRY OF COLUMBIA FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY EFFORTS AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES UPON BEING NAMED 2001 AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR BY THE GREATER COLUMBIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce has named Mrs. Charlotte Lunsford Berry as the 2001 Ambassador of the Year; and
Whereas, the Ambassador of the Year Award is a coveted privilege that is the ultimate symbol of goodwill in Columbia and is presented annually to the one individual who most epitomizes the qualities of leadership, volunteerism, and community service in the Columbia area; and
Whereas, Mrs. Berry is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, and moved to Columbia in 1991 from Asheville, North Carolina, after marrying Columbia attorney Joe Berry; and
Whereas, Mrs. Berry has assumed an active leadership role in numerous organizations throughout the Midlands while also serving in various capacities in a number of significant national organizations; and
Whereas, she has served actively on the local boards of the United Way of the Midlands, the American Red Cross, the Cultural Council of Lexington and Richland Counties, Historic Columbia Foundation, the Columbia Museum of Art, the South Carolina State Museum, Central Carolina Community Foundation, the United Way of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Foundation of Independent Colleges and Universities; and
Whereas, currently she serves as Chairman of the Board for United Way of South Carolina, Leadership Giving Chair for the United Way of the Midlands, and as a member of the Board of Directors for Wachovia Bank; and
Whereas, on a national level, she has served as Chair of the Leadership Initiative fund drive for Mary Baldwin College, as a member of the National Red Cross Board of Governors, and the United Way of America Board; and
Whereas, Mrs. Berry is the mother of two wonderful children and grandmother of two lovely grandchildren, and her extended family includes five children and five grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this truly delightful and charming lady upon her receipt of this welldeserved award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend Mrs. Charlotte Lunsford Berry of Columbia for her outstanding community efforts and leadership activities upon being named 2001 Ambassador of the Year by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Berry.
