As a part of our Family & Consumer Science curriculum, the 8th grade classes will be partnering with ConKerr Cancer for a community service project. The students will be sewing pillowcases to be donated to children in local hospitals with life altering illnesses and injuries. ConKerr Cancer and the “Case for Smiles” project was founded by Cindy Kerr when her son, Ryan, a former Valley Forge Middle School student, was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 at the age of twelve. The ConKerr Cancer project has grown significantly since that time, and although Ryan lost his battle with cancer in 2008, the mission he inspired continues to touch countless lives.
We are excited about the opportunity to support this organization and give our students a chance to share a smile through their pillowcase creations. Each student will be responsible for purchasing the necessary fabric for the project. I have provided a list of necessary items. You can learn more about this remarkable family, ConKerr Cancer and the “Case for Smiles” project at Thank you in advance for your participation!
In order to begin working on the pillowcases in a timely fashion, all materials need to be brought to Room 119s starting the week of February 16th! Please bring project supplies to class that week on your cycle day (day 1, day 2, etc.) or you may drop them off before homeroom any other day.
If there is a problem with purchasing the fabric, please let me know. You may call my voicemail extension 2332 or email and I will assist you any way I can. I look forward to working on this project with the 8th grade!
