Head of Finance and Membership

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in this important role at the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM).

The FOM is a charity committed to improving health at work. We believe that being in ‘good’ work should be a measurable health outcome. It is the professional and educational body for occupational medicine in the UK and seeks to ensure the highest standards in the practice of occupational medicine.

At the FOM, we believe everyone of working age has the right to benefit from healthy and rewarding work and the right to access competent occupational medical advice as part of comprehensive occupational health services. Enabling people to remain in work, with appropriate support - and return to work speedily after illness is key to our goals.

This is an exciting period for us. We are moving to purpose-built premises in Greenwich in the summer and have an ambitious plan to grow our impact and business over the next three years. The state-of-the-art premises will house our head office and a new events space – the Education Centre for Occupational Health (ECOH), which we aim to become a hub for occupational health training, events, meetings and examinations for the FOM and for its partner organisations. Until the move is complete, we remain in our rented offices in Holborn.

The FOM staff team comprises 12 people and the Head of Finance and Membership is a member of the Senior Management Team and has one direct report. The staff members are a talented and committed team and are fully engaged with our plans for the future.

The Person

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and business nous, who can thrive in a small organisation and who has entrepreneurial flair. During 2018, we shall be in-sourcing a key part of our business that is currently contracted out, and the Head of Finance and Membership will play a key role in this.

During 2016 and the beginning of 2017, we rolled-out our new CRM database – Civi CRM. The first phase has been successfully completed and we shall be entering phase two in the summer. The previous Head of Finance and Membership was Project Manager for this initiative, and his successor will need to get up to speed with the system and work with the Finance and Membership Co-ordinator and other colleagues to spearhead the completion of phase two.

These two key business areas provide an opportunity for the post-holder to make her or his mark and to be involved in taking the FOM into its new era of strategic development. If you have the energy and determination to take on the challenge, we hope you will apply for the role.

Remuneration and Benefits

The FOM is offering an annual salary of up to £45k, with 28 days’ holiday, a contributory pension (employer contributes 5%), flexible working conditions and a season ticket loan. We are currently negotiating discounted gym membership with our neighbours, Pure Gym, in Lovibond Lane, Greenwich and are investigating child care facilities in the area on the same basis.
