Arts Market New Orleans Rules and Guidelines

Signing the waiver attached to this document denotes you have read, understood, and will comply will all market rules listed here and/or as directed by Arts Market Staff. The rules are subject to periodic change and revision as necessary. No Arts Market Vendor may participate in the Market until a digital copy of the signed agreement has been received by Arts Market staff.

Violation of any part of the Rules and Guidelines will result in first, a written warning from Arts Market staff, at second violation the vendor will be prohibited from participating in the next three Markets (if booth fees were paid in advance, these fees are forfeit.)

  • Market is typically held the last Saturday of every month, unless otherwise scheduled by Market Staff. Please refer to the complete listing of Arts market dates found on the Arts council’s website at: . In the event of rain, please refer to the Rain Policy. Expense for production of the Arts market New Orleans is incurred and paid in advance. Therefore, each exhibitor must assume the risk of a rain out or inclement weather for the market to continue to operate.
  • A single booth is $125 for non-members and $100 for ACNO members, per Market. This includes approximately 10x10’ space of ground for one exhibitor only. Artists must be accepted for display by a jury committee which includes two Arts Council staff members and three outside jurors. Booth spaces to be shared by two artists are also available. For shared booths, the rate is $80 per person for non-members and $65 per person for ACNO members. BOTH artists must be accepted and approved by the jury committee in order to share a booth. Larger booth options are available. Please contact the Associate Director and Curator, Artist Services for more information.
  • All Arts Market exhibitors and vendors are required to obtain an Occupational License classified for “Special Events – Vendor (Other)” from the City of New Orleans. It is the responsibility of the artist/vendor to provide a digital copy of their license to the manager of the Market before participating in their first Market.
  • BOOTH ASSIGNMENTS are assigned by Arts Council staff. Preliminary booth assignments will be emailed to vendors the Wednesday before the Market. Final monthly booth assignments will be emailed out by the Friday before a Market. It is the responsibility of the vendor to confirm that they are or are not listed for each month and to notify Arts Market staff if there is a mistake. Failure to notify staff could result in the loss of booth fees. While the market staff does their best to accommodate all artist/vendor booth requests it is not always possible to do so and all final decisions on booth assignments are at the discretion of the Market staff.
  • When settingup, all spaces must be at least two (2) feet off the edge of the sidewalk, so as not to disrupt the right of way of Market patrons.
  • MARKET HOURS are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • SET-UP is day of the Market only. Exhibitors may set up no earlier than 6:00 a.m. day of Market. All exhibitor booths must be completely set up by 9:30AM a.m. the day of the Market.
  • TAKE-DOWN of any booth may not begin before 4:00PM
  • WHITE TENTS are required from allcreative vendors. All vendor tents must be 10x10’ in size and come with a standard flame-resistant certificate. All artist vendors MUST have a white tent.
  • All vendors must keep a fire extinguisher that has a renewable and current certification tag affixed to it.
  • All tents must be either weighted or staked to the ground for the safety of Arts Market patrons and other vendors.
  • Creative vendors are not allowed to bring or use any type of generator at Palmer Park.
  • PARKING is not allowed along the immediate perimeter of Palmer Park during market hours. Cars are not allowed in the park under any circumstances. Vendors are allowed to park on the perimeter of Palmer Park while they unload, then must move cars at least one block into the neighborhood before setting up. There are “no parking” signs along S. Carrolton Avenue as well as Sycamore & Dublin Streets. The city will issue tickets and the Arts Council cannot be held liable. As of 4:00pm artists are allowed to retrieve their cars and load-out on the perimeter (please use hazard lights). Artists who park along the perimeter of the park before 4:00 may result in exhibitor losing the opportunity to participate in future markets.
  • Violation of parking policies will result in first, a written warning from Arts Market staff, at second violation the vendor will be prohibited from participating in the next three Markets (if booth fees were paid in advance, these fees are forfeit.)
  • ARTWORK displayed at the Market must be at least 80% handmade by the artist. No machine-made molds or mass produced work permitted. Artists may sell prints, but no mass produced posters are permitted.
  • Jewelry Policy: Majority of piece must be hand-tooled. Using cast and beaded elements is allowed, but artist must hand make prototype for casting (no photos/drawings). Piece must be finished and assembled exclusively by artist. Finishing is more than simply attaching cast piece/beads to wire/chain. Jewelry artists may not sell works mass produced from their own original designs. Works must be hand made by the artist.
  • Jewelry applications are accepted and reviewed each Spring. During the remainder of the calendar year the moratorium on jewelry products is in effect.
  • Any new works, different from the medium of the work specified on the First Time Application, must be reviewed and approved by the Arts Market manager and jury committee.
  • All merchandise to be sold on a guaranteed as represented, money-back basis.
  • As the Arts Market New Orleans operates within a designated Cultural Zone of New Orleans, all art exhibitors must conduct their own sale transactions at the Arts Market. Relatives (spouses, siblings, children, etc.) of art exhibitors are allowed to sell on behalf of Market artists but must be pre-approved by the Arts Market manager.
  • The Market reserves the right to request and exhibitor to remove any item(s) from their display. Failure to remove such items after being asked by Market staff may result in exhibitor losing the opportunity to participate in future markets.
  • The Market reserves the right to reject any contract for exhibit space and reject any exhibitor.
  • All exhibitors agree to treat their fellow artists, vendors, and staff with courtesy and respect. Verbal or physical abuse of any artists, vendors, customers, market volunteers or staff will not be tolerated, and may result in the exhibitor losing the opportunity to participate in future markets.
  • All exhibitors are responsible for the collection of City and State Sales Tax. The Arts Market will not collect or pay any taxes.
  • Exhibitor agrees to take care of grounds, cleaning up their area, and removing all trash at the end of the day. Failure to clean up trash may result in exhibitor losing the opportunity to participate in future markets.
  • The Artist grants to the Arts Council and its assigns an irrevocable license to make two-dimensional reproductions of the Artist Exhibitor Work for non-commercial purposes, including but not limited to reproductions used in advertising, brochures, media publicity, and catalogues or other similar publications, provided that these rights are exercised in a professional manner.
  • All participating exhibitors agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY the Arts Council of New Orleans, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and leaders from any and all liabilityon account of, or inany way resulting from Injuries and Damages, even if caused by negligence of the Arts Council of New Orleans’ officers, directors,employees, agents, and leaders, in any way connected with the Art Market.
