Tuesday, April 22, 2014--- High School v. College Group Activity

- Break up students into groups of 4 or 5. Pass out the Blank Handout: “Differences between High School and College.”

- In their groups, ask them to identify what are the specific characteristics of high school for each of the categories on the handout.

- For example, under “Personal Freedom”, students might put: “No freedom to pick most classes in high school” in the HIGH SCHOOL side of the Chart and “Many choices in picking classes” in the COLLEGE side of the Chart.

- Give students the rest of the time to complete their charts and discuss in their groups.

Wednesday, April 23, 2014---High School v. College Group Activity

-Ask students to break up into the groups they were in yesterday. Tell them to take out their handouts: “Differences between High School and College.”

- When everyone has finished, assign one section of the Chart to different groups and have them report out to the class what they put in their section.

- Invite students from other groups to add additional information to complete the Charts. Be sure that students are adding information to each section as they listen to the presentations.

- Be sure to share your own experiences or experiences of other students who you have kept in touch with to provide your Advisory Class with a well-rounded list of information about the differences between College and High School.

Thursday,April 24, 2014---Questions for Alumni/College Students

- Now that students have a better idea of some of the differences between College and High School, ask students to share with the class what questions they still have about College Life.

- Make a class list of questions that they have regarding: classes, balancing time, financial aid, college activities, housing information, …

- When you are complete with your list of questions, send these questions to Ms. Winningham in the CollegeCenter or put them in her box in the main office. Ms. Winningham will email or talk to some of our graduates/alumni to get their answers to these questions and return the questions to your Advisory with answers by Friday, May 9th.

- Encourage students to be as specific or clear as they can be in what they want to know and be sure to keep a copy of the questions for yourself before you send them to Ms. Winningham.

Friday, April 25, 2014 ---Senior Reflection

- Pass out the Senior Reflection Sheet and Senior Survey and ask students to complete them.

- When they are complete, please send them to Ms. Winningham in the CollegeCenter.

- Every student must complete them, so please keep track of absentees and others who do not finish them.

- If there are students who have not yet decided where they will be attending college, you may keep these forms until next week. Remember that May 1, 2014 is the deadline to tell 4-year schools that they will be attending them. NO EXCEPTIONS!
