ATHLETIC/PHYSICAL PACKET:

In order for a student to try-out, condition, or participate in any physical activity with a team, the student MUST have an updated PHYSICAL and INSURANCE affidavit on file in the athletic department.

The athletic packet information includes:

  • Spartan Code of Conduct
  • Medical history
  • Physical form/Emergency Release
  • SBCUSD drug testing program
  • Insurance affidavit
  • Transportation release
  • CIF Code of Ethics
  • Risk Waiver
  • Drug Use/Steroid information
  • ASB Card/Awards flyer

ATHLETES AND ASB CARDS:

It is not mandatory for an athlete to purchase an ASB Card in order to participate in athletics. However, our ASB budget is severely dependent upon the purchase of ASB Cards in order to pay for most of our athletic costs (awards, banners, dues for CIF Southern Section, CIFState, and league, tournaments, transportation, officials, game management, miscellaneous costs, etc.)

Athletes who do not purchase an ASB Card will not receive any varsity letters, patches, or medals from the school; for varsity athletes without an ASB Card, these awards may be purchased separately by the student/parent in the ASB Finance Office.

PLEASE HELP SUPPORT ASB & ATHLETICS BY PURCHASING AN ASB CARD… buy an ASB Card and EVERYONE benefits!

SELECTIONS OF THE TEAM:

Coaches will select players that they feel can best represent their program and the school.

Selection will/can include:

  • Skills/ability
  • Attitude
  • Work ethic
  • Ability to get along with teammates and coaching staff
  • Grades

Players are not guaranteed a position on the team each year. There can be several factors including:

  • Physical growth by teammates
  • Younger players coming into the program
  • Off-season commitment
  • Individuals not progressing in skills, knowledge of the game, etc.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY:

Athletes must have earned a minimum 2.0 grade point average, based upon a four-point scale, for the preceding grading period in order to be eligible to participate in athletics. They also must have passed a minimum of 20 units (4 classes) for the preceding grading period.

Entering freshmen are automatically eligible per SBCUSD Board Policy for their first semester. Any freshman not earning the 2.0 grade point average or not passing in 20 units during their first semester fall or winter season will be put in the SGHS freshmen academic probation program.
