(1) EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HIGHER EDUCATION CONFERENCE, EMI, EMMITSBURG, MD, JUNE 4-7, 2007:

ACCEPTANCE LETTERS: After a couple weeks of going back and forth

with various staff within the NETC Admissions Office on details in the "Acceptance Letter" we provide in the acceptance packets provided in response to applications received and accepted for the conference, it appears that our letters have been approved and thus the Admissions Office will begin to notify individuals that their applications to attend the conference, as well as any of its associated workshops, have been received and approved.

EMERGENCYMANAGEMENTCOLLEGE STUDENT VOLUNTEERS: Have today accepted several additional emergency management student volunteers who will assist in the conference in various ways, but principally by agreeing to be assigned to one of the conference breakout sessions as a recorder and reporter. This involves taking good notes during the breakout session and drafting a short (say 3-5 page) paper summarizing the breakout session. These reports will be incorporated into the Conference proceedings. Accepted students today from:

(4) UNIVERSITY OF AKRON EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM:

While communicating with Assistant Professor of Emergency Management Stacey Willet at the University of Akron about the upcoming EM HiEd Conference, she noted the following, which I thought to be of interest:

"Things are going VERY well. I am pretty happy with the growth of the program. In addition it seems that student jobs have really opened up. We had a hard time in the beginning since no one knew what EM was back then. Placement isn't an issue anymore and their starting pay is better than mine! We now have students working at all of our area hospitals, directing the Red Cross, we have 6 now at our state EMA and probably 4 others that head our counties. p.s. they're finally in private sectorjobs- the last section we needed to break into."
