Vocational trainer with VSO!

We have a number of opportunities for mechanical engineers with teaching experience to volunteer in our programmes in Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Motor vehicle mechanics advisor, Tanzania

You’ll use your degree and/or Advanced Diploma in Vocational Training or QTS certification to train and support both tutors and staff. Using your experience of working in the industry and vocational training you will provide particular expertise and training on assembling car engines (including caterpillar or other heavy equipment) in line with specifications and quality metrics and assembling, repairing and maintaining engine sub-components. You’ll also know about fitting, aligning, calibrating, adjusting and installing parts, mechanisms and components to meet vehicle operating requirements and conducting experimental tests on models and supervising the operation and maintenance of the equipment.You’ll also be asked to build the capacity of staff on delivering motor vehicle mechanics courses. You will also participate in planning, design and administration of continuing education courses, including conducting research, needs assessments and consultancy projects where needed. Mechanical plant advisor, Tanzania

You’ll use your degree or equivalent qualification in vocational training to develop training materials and deliver training both to students and tutors. You’ll have professional experience in mechanical plant maintenance and installation, working in a factory or establishment such as a hospital, utility company or production plant. You’ll use your management experience and training experience to build the capacity of staff and students, sharing best practice. You’ll also supervise and instruct students on the operation and maintenance of operational equipment. You’ll need to be an excellent communicator with good facilitation and negotiation skills.
