Course Description: Georgia Studies content will follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence as posted on the Georgia Board of Education website.

Textbook: Students have access to classroom textbooks. The majority of instruction, however, will be through the use of technology and cooperative learning assignments requiring students to be engaged. It is important that students have a thumb drive for use in class daily due to the use of research tools.

Online Textbook: Students can use the following link to access the Georgia Online Textbook that can be helpful in helping him or her complete assignments at home, possibly due to absences or working on a project. I will assign questions using the online textbook from time to time.

Course Expectations:

  • Keep an organized notebook with a Table of Contents in a three-ring binder
  • Complete and turn in all assignments on time – Late work is not generally accepted
  • Review vocabulary nightly – Daily grades will include unit vocabulary assignments.
  • Be on time to class, respect others, and work cooperatively with classmates

Daily Warm-Ups: Daily warm-ups are a part of daily instruction. Warm-ups are used to complete monthly quizzes and students should be responsible to get them from a classmate if he or she is absent.

Notebooks: Notebook content will be graded at the end of each unit. Organization of the notebook is vital to success in class. Vocabulary, daily notes, projects criteria, and current events will be kept in the notebook. A Table of Contents will be posted in the classroom at all times so that students are aware of any content that is missed during an absence. It is the responsibility of the student to get the make-up work and complete it on time.

Grading: Unit Tests 30%

Daily Work/Homework/Warm Up Quizzes, Notebooks40%

Communication: Students should write down assignments, test dates, and due dates in his or her agenda for parents to look over nightly. Please sign up for Parent Portal through the school to see grades on a daily basis. I offer a REMIND Application for students and parents to receive reminders and messages about upcoming due dates and information. It is a free mobile app on most smart phones. Just text @834bg to 81010 to be enrolled. You can also call the school number and leave a voice mail for me as well as email anytime for a quick response.
