Basic Safety Precaution / Plan daily work and organise physical environment in compliance with the relevant regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act No 85, 1993)

Hand Skills / Sharpen chisels, drills, punches, marking-off tools
Dress screwdrivers.
Manufacture objects using techniques and material: filing, sawing, drilling, tapping, reaming.
Harden and temper objects.
Arc Welding / Set up and use AC and/or DC welding machines, equipment including starting up and shutting down procedures.
Prepare material for arc welding.
Tack; and arc weld work pieces incidental to the trade using manual metal arc welding techniques.
Gas Welding / Set up and use oxygen-fuel gas equipment including light up, adjustment of gas pressures and shut down procedures.

Dismantle, recondition and refit oil pump.
Bearings / Remove, match and fit bearings: standard, thrust, straight, taper, needle, thrust needle, and spherical roller bearing
Remove bearing using: a bearing using a puller and press.
Fit a bearing to a shaft using a press and by heating.
Cooling Systems / Remove, recondition and install water pumps including: thermostat, radiator, relief valve (cap), fan and cowling, engine oil cooler, oil cooler and a thermostat.
Carry out pressure tests; on static cooling system, thermostat opening temperatures (outside machine), oil coolers.
Adjust V-belts, check and replace pulleys
Add additives to a given cooling system.
Batteries / Maintain and store batteries.
Connect batteries in series and parallel.
Test battery capacity and ensure specific gravity levels are correct.
Electrical Systems / Fit and connect applicable auto electrical components.
Fault find auto electrical components.
Check and adjust head lights.

Diagnose faults, replace and fit: fuel filters, oil filters, air cleaner filters
Do pre-delivery services.
Do a major services.
Exhaust Systems / Remove and replace faulty exhaust systems.
Turbochargers / Replace and fit: turbine wheel, shaft compressor wheel, turbine centre and compressor housing.
Assess end play on bearings, shafts and compressor wheel to housing.
Gaskets And Seals / Fit various gaskets and seals.
Transmission Systems / Remove, repair and replace clutch systems.
Trace and repair faults on worn and faulty components on transmission systems:
front wheel drive
rear wheel drive
mechanical gear drive
Hydraulics / Interpret and apply symbols, abbreviations, hydraulic circuit diagrams, hydraulic fluids for systems used.
Install and maintain: filters (suction, pressure, return), Install and maintain hydraulic tubing and fittings, flexible hydraulic hoses and fittings, hydraulic pumps ( vane, gear, piston), hydraulic pumps, directional control, pressure and flow control valves, hydraulic cylinders.
Diagnose faults in hydraulic systems.
Adjust lifting devices.
Maintain and adjust hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Engine Tuning / Mount fuel injector pump and adjust spill timing.
Carry out a pre and post test on fuel system with dynometer:
