Marshall High School Honor Society

Purpose

The purpose of the Marshall High School Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for academic scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Marshall High School and the community.

Membership

Membership in the Honor Society is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is reviewed by the Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. No one area is weighted any higher than the other. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

Membership is known as active and graduate. Active members shall become graduate members at graduation.

Candidates eligible for selection must be members of the junior or senior class and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or its equivalent. The candidate’s eligibility for membership isthen considered on academic scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Activities

The Honor Society will be involved in multiple service projects each year.All members are expected to regularly participate in these projects and activities.The activities and projects have the following characteristics. They: fulfill a need within the school or community; have the support of the administration and the faculty; are appropriate and educationally defensible; are well planned, organized, and executed.

Meetings

The Honor Society has monthlymeetings and small committee meetings and all members are required to attend the scheduled meetings and activities.

Time Commitment

One full-membership meeting per month.

One committee meeting per month (time is flexible and can be arranged).

Committee project responsibilities (time is flexible and can be arranged).
