Appendix. The motivational techniques scale

While you are on the treadmill I am going to ask you certain questions once every ten minutes. First, I will have you will rate how much you have been thinking about certain things in order to help you work hard on a scale from 0 to 4 where 0 is “not thinking about it at all” and 4 is “thinking about it a lot”. Please make sure to answer how much you have been thinking about the items in the previous 10 minutes in order to help you work hard. So you feel comfortable answering totally honestly, I am going to ask the questions by holding up these cards. I am going to shuffle the cards each time so they will appear in a different order and neither experimenter knows what question you are answering.
