Apdex Alliance Experiences Growth; Announces New Members

Coradiant and Expand Networks Propel Apdex Promise of Aligning IT and Business Objectives

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA—March 18, 2005—The Application Performance Index (Apdex) Alliance announced today that two new companies, Coradiant and Expand Networks, have joined the group, which debuted earlier this month. The Alliance, now comprised of 11 companies, was formed as an open movement to ensure Apdex, an index that measures user satisfaction with the performance of enterprise applications, provides high value to the largest possible audience.

Apdex Alliance Founder Peter Sevcik and president of NetForecast, an Alliance member, says, “interest generated in the group since launching the index further demonstrates the importance of promoting transparency and open dialog when trying to align IT with business goals,” he says. “Companies are joining Apdex because they understand the need for the ‘one’ number to measure IT satisfaction amongst users.”

“Both of these organizations bring unique qualities to the Alliance,” says Sevcik. “Expand Networks has a very large installed customer base. When they roll out an Apdex reporting feature it will be available and used by enterprises globally. Coradiant is a leading company in measuring real user performance.Their monitoring product has a very high level of sophistication in detecting subtle performance issues, errors, and loss during a user's session with a system. These forensic details will add to the knowledge base of the Alliance.”

Alistair Croll, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Coradiant says, "Coradiant believes that real users performing real transactions on applications are what matter most to businesses. Apdex provides a consistent, open approach to aligning business priorities with the way IT services are deployed and operated. Since its founding in 1997, Coradiant has been at the forefront of Internet and web performance research. Apdex further reinforces the industry leadership of Coradiant’s TrueSight real-user web transaction monitor.”

“As the technology leader in the Application Traffic Management market, Expand Networks is very excited to be part of the industry’s first initiative to objectively measure application performance and corresponding user satisfaction,” comments Ariel Shulman, VP Product Management at Expand Networks. “Through our participation in the Apdex Alliance, we hope to collaboratively develop a powerful tool that CIOs can rely on to define service levels for applications that drive business process and innovation.”

Adds Sevcik, “As Apdex is unveiled to customers it is very important that the Alliance have an understanding from both the measurement and enhancement side of IT.” Apdex’s two newest members continue the balance between measurement companies and performance enhancement companies, as Coradiant is the former and Expand Networks is the latter.

Alliance members include: Adlex, Coradiant, Expand Networks, FineGround, NetForecast, NetQoS, Network Physics, Packeteer, Peribit, Swan Labs and WildPackets.
