APASK CODE OF ETHICS
As a member of the Addiction Professionals Association of Saskatchewan I have a responsibility to:
- Believe in the dignity and worth of all human beings and that I shall not in any way discriminate between clients or fellow professionals on the basis of race, color, creed, age, or sexual orientation.
- Recognize the right to respectful treatment of anyone suffering from alcohol and drug abuse and or addiction and that the primary goal is recovery for the client and his/her family.
- Provide the highest quality care for those who seek addictions services.
4.Maintain a professional relationship with all persons served, assisting them to help themselves, and referring them promptly to other programs or individuals, when in their best interests.
- Adhere strictly to established precepts of confidentiality regarding all knowledge, records and materials concerning persons served in accordance with relevant Saskatchewan government legislation and regulations.
- Ensure that all transactions between myself and persons served are non-exploitive and essential to their recovery; and furthermore I shall maintain at all times an objective, non-possessive, professional relationship with all clients.
- Give due respect to the rights, views and positions of my colleagues and other related human service professionals
- Respect those institutional polices and procedures, with which I may be associated, as long as these policies and procedures remain consistent with recognized standards, best practices and ethics.
- Contribute ideas and findings regarding alcohol and drug abuse and or addiction including treatment and recovery wherever and whenever appropriate.
- Maintain individual responsibility for personal conduct in all lifestyle areas. So as not to diminish my personal capability, integrity, professional competence and legal obligations.
- Avoid claiming or implying any personal capabilities or professional qualifications beyond those I have actually attained.
- Regularly evaluate my own strengths, limitations, biases, or levels of effectiveness, always striving for self- improvement and seeking professional development by means of further education and training.
I will adhere to these ethical principles as part of my responsibility as a member of APASK, the Addiction Professionals Association of Saskatchewan, Inc.
