Apartment Swimming Pool Policy

APARTMENT SWIMMING POOL POLICY

It is the policy of the YMCA of Greater Houston to conduct aquatic instruction programs utilizing swimming pools owned by Houston-area apartment complexes. The programs are designed to develop aquatic skills, membership potential and to promote the concept of Spirit, Mind and Body. The program will be conducted for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years. In keeping with this policy, the YMCA agrees to the following conditions:

§  Diving boards and starting blocks are not used at any time.

§  To provide certified lifeguards and instructors who will wear distinctive apparel to make them easily visible and who will carry a whistle whenever on duty.

§  To train guards and instructors in the implementation of emergency procedures.

§  To secure parent or guardian release/consent forms for each minor participant.

§  To provide classes of ½ hour or more as agreed upon with the swimming pool owner.

§  To closely and continuously supervise the conduct of participants from the time of arrival to the time of departure.

§  To provide cellular telephone, if telephone not available from owner.

§  To provide all required swimming pool safety equipment.

The swimming pool owner shall have the following responsibilities:

§  To allow the YMCA to have exclusive use of the swimming pool during agreed class times.

§  To maintain the swimming pool in a clean and sanitary condition in compliance with local Health Department or governing bodies’ requirements and regulations.

§  To provide a telephone for emergency use or allow YMCA use of their phone.

§  To provide the use of a restroom.

§  To provide yard and walkways clear for safe entry and exit from the swimming pool area.

§  To allow a sign to be posted while lessons are in progress. i.e. “YMCA SWIM LESSONS BEING CONDUCTED”

§  To keep children (other than participants) and pets away from swimming pool chemicals.

§  To notify the YMCA promptly if any condition exists, such as water treatment, sanitation or water temperature being unsatisfactory, so that appropriate alternate plans can be made.

§  To recruit, schedule and register all participants, providing completed registration forms to the YMCA.
