AP summer assignments 2015/ 2016
- Create a foreshortened drawing of a figure or figures of people. Look for unusual angles and consider what will be in the ground. Use a full range of values. . Reference the value scale. Image must be Black and white using dramatic light. Art D students may create a photographic image.
- 2nd summer assignment. Create a 1 or 2 point waterscape drawing. Use an asymmetric composition. Consider bridges, docks, boats mooring, sail boats, benches in the fore ground etc. Combine the water with one of these images or something similar. The water may be placid or rough. Consider the ocean, stream, creek beds with rocks, rivers, lakes, etc. Consider vegetation. These must be very detailed. Look for reflections and shadows to create visual interest. Again reference images through a camera and arrive at the best possible scenario OR COMBINE ELEMENTS FROM A FEW TO CREATE A UNQIUE VIEW. Do NOT USE WIDELY PUBLISHED Photo graphs. These images must be yours and come from direct observation or your photograph. Be sure and emphasize TEXTURE and LIGHT. No larger than 16 x 20 and no smaller than 8 x 10. All the elements and principles used MUST reflect excellence. Use ether color as in colored pencils or graphite.
- Create an architectural composition. Consider a birds eye view, interior or exterior view. Look for interesting buildings. Deland has some wonderful architectural buildings like The Athens Theater, The Blind Pig, Santorinis, old churches, barns, etc. Look for something that captures allot of interest. Brick, stucco, wood, etc. is more interesting than just cement. This mayrendered in black and white or color, again strong range of values. 8x10 to 16 x 20, no larger or smaller. Use good quality paper.
- Research 3 different artists, or photographers and compose a I page bio with a critique of 2 or more of their works. Understand how they use color and composition, what their influences are and know the style or movement associated with each artist. These must be professional working artist past or present and must represent fine art. It would be best to search over the span of different eras to give yourself as deeper understanding of the history of art. Look at classical, modern, mid century artists, abstract, traditional, expressionistic, European and American artists….
All work must be printed out before class on good quality print paper.
These are due in FULL the 2nd day of school. NO EXCEPTIONS
